Due to recent partial winterkills, the current fishery in South Stanchfield Lake has very little to interest most anglers. Both Bluegill and Black Crappie were small and low in abundance with respective average lengths of just 5.0 and 6.9 inches. I will start off by saying that this lake was amazing at one time. That doesn?t mean it?s all that bad now, it just simply froze out in a cold winter around 8 years ago. I remember back then I would go out with my dad and my brothers and we would catch sunnys that were bigger then my head. Also pike that were nice 5 pounders, man grouse were the days! I don?t know if it has come back yet but if it doesn?t it was fun while it lasted!

Good place to take a canoe or kayak, as you'll likely be the only boat on the water. The shallows are choked with vegetation, but it clears up in deeper water. Shoreline was full of dead and dying bullheads, which is not a good sign for fishing.
