FISHING REPORT
Temperatures 90s for highs to upper 60s for lows. Thunderstorms possible. Area rivers and streams remain low. For current fishing information, please contact the Chuck Gipp Decorah Fish Hatchery at 563-382-8324.

Green algae bloom on Volga Lake continues.

Channel Catfish - Excellent: This is an excellent time of year and place to catch a trophy catfish. Find fish in late evening cruising the shallows. Use cut or stink baits for best luck.

Bluegill - Fair: Find gills near shore in evening. Use small jig and twister tail or small piece of worm for luck.

Black Crappie - Fair: Crappies moving near shoreline in the evening to feed. Use a jig tipped with a twister tail for luck.

FISHING FORECAST
Over the last several years, volunteers and park and fisheries staff have installed cedar tree clusters and rock piles to provide more habitat diversity and cover to enhance fish populations. Volga Lake is the place to go for trophy channel catfish with fish up to 31 inches. Black Crappie numbers in the 8 inch range remain high but a few 10 inchers are out there. Bluegill 7 inches are common. A nice population of largemouth bass are available. (2017)
