Out tonight with a couple good friends. We targeted walleyes and crappies in 5-12 ft. Had steady action all night from the crappies and gills. Landed around 20 crappies in the 9-11 inch range. We had 8 flags 1 break off, two 16 inch eyes and a 19 inch eye. Lost another eye that was 20ish or so. All fish released except 5 crappies. Tight lines.
They took the dock out at the main launch at Sand Bar Grill so I had to launch without a dock. Certainly makes it more challenging and I wish I had brought my waders. Pike appeared more active than the bass right now but spoke with a guy who caught a few of both on rattletraps.
Had something I’ve never experienced before. About 30 minutes into fishing, I hooked a 12” bass on a small paddle tail swim bait on a spinning rod. While reeling it in, it suddenly got heavier. I looked down and a pike had chomped down on the bass and wouldn’t let go. Somehow I was able to get both fish in the net. The pike released from the bass and then I unhooked the bass. I was able to release both fish. Pike was a fat 38” pike that went ~ 15 pounds. Unreal. Pretty slow otherwise, caught two decent additional pike for a total of 4 fish. Also got bit off once.
