Hello everyone -
My son got his first electronic for ice fishing and we are looking to try it out this weekend. I believe this lake has a decent about of yellowbass, figured that would be a perfect way to try out the new toy. We head up to Lake of the Woods in a couple weeks and want him feeling confident.
Any suggestions would be great. Much appreciated!

First place bass was 5.85 lbs. First place northern was 6.95 lbs. Yes a pikey was brought in from Cystal. Biggest 5 panfish was 1.3 lbs. Largest catch of yellow bass was 22.6 pounds. We were 102 people short of registration from last year, but still managed to raise more money. $14,844 was raised for two amazing local charities. I'm sure you all heard of the fisherman that was recovered from Fish Lake that same day. He went missing on Thursday and was recovered on Saturday. We had a moment of silence for him and said a prayer. We made posts on Facebook warning people about the unsafe ice. I'm really beating myself up about this, but I should've made a post on the Fish Lake page, but I'm not on this website much anymore. It's a risk we all take. I normally end this post as "Good times were had by all" unfortunately this was not the year.
Ice is measuring 11-13 inches and the shoreline is rock solid. Half tons have been driving across. I marked off where the open water was off the point on the island on the east end. Hope to see you all at the Fisharee tomorrow, should be a hoot.
Yup, like I said in my last report. The shoreline got soft. Main lake is solid. With the forecast hopefully all that slush will freeze, but you'd be surprised how long slush will stay slush. There is also some open water. A few spots right next to shore, where there is no access, so it shouldn't be an issue. Main area of concern is the point on the East end opened up. That has always been a problem area. With the wind whipping from the west it's getting bigger, also one of my go to spots this time of year. What I can't figure out is where these open holes opened up, one would think there was a spring there, but where all these open holes are was dry land not that long ago. What gives!?!?
Cloudy 17°
Water: 38°

HEADS UP! I was planning on heading out from the old DNR landing to fish this afternoon around 1:30 pm. Before heading out on the atv, (i was out two weeks ago on about 10") I decided to check the ice around the landing, as something bothered me. About 10 feet off the landing I fell through in maybe 3 feet of water. Just an FYI. Be safe.
My early ice spot didn't pan out like it did last year. Only a few small bluegies with not much for tip up action. Lately I've been fishing deeper water over structure. Catching all kinds of yellow bass, but no size. Hardly a one worth cleaning. Night bite for crappies hasn't been there either. Wish I had a better fishing report, but I don't. Ice was about 8-9" before the rain and the shoreline got soft. Anyway I'm helping organize the Fisharee at Scoepps again this year. January 31st. 50/50 raffle. Plenty of cool baskets to bid on. Hot food and cold drinks. Everything we make goes to local charities. Hope to see you all there.
