mking- you can park almost anywhere on the south side. East end is better in the winter, west and is better spring/summer. If you want crappie go out at night. Personally I don't mind the crowed and the drive to Monona Bay. That spot never seems to disappoint me.
Not without difficulty........
Can boats be launched anywhere on Crystal??? Thanks.
CrystalLakeMonster, I'm looking to get away from the crowd on Monona Bay this winter and check out Crystal Lake a few times. Which end of the lake is best to start for ice fishing? Where is good parking/lake access? I've launched my canoe from Crystal Lake Road in the summer, is that area (south shore) any good in the winter? Thanks.
Forecast calls for a cold snowy winter. But we'll have to see. I'm really looking forward to ice fishing this year. Personally all the crappie I caught were small, but I've seen lots of pictures of 14-16 inch crappie pulled from this lake this year. Bluegill fishing was great and caught quite a few catfish. Me and all the locals had some of the best fishing in years. If you've written this lake off, I suggest you give it another chance. Little John your welcomed in my ice shack anytime!
CLM, what’s the forecast for hard water this year? Not looking like FLA is happening , so I may have to take up residence in your shanty!!
Use stink bait off the bottom just about anywhere you can fish. I was out there the other night with a few friends. Only caught one bullhead, lost a few in the stumps. I don't know much about catfish, I know fishing can be tough in the dog days of summer. Maybe they'll pick up when it cools down??
I've been catching mainly Carp and a few largemouth bass but I heard there are catfish in the lake. I can only fish from shore(without a boat) so any of you guys mind telling me where from shore I could get a catfish on this lake. Was able to hook one on crystal lake road but was not able to land it. Only Catfish bite I got all day.
Crystalmonster. I Appreciate the pictures. I was planning to make the drive to check it out myself from madison. Thanks, you saved me time. Just cant believe it floodded so bad that it caused the pavement to warped.
