History & Status of the Fishery
Denley Lake is 43.2 acres having a maximum depth of 21 feet and a littoral area of area of 38.2 acres. Located 16.8 miles northwest of Isabella, MN about 2.3 miles west of State Highway1 on USFS Rd #424 (New Tomahawk Road), where the snowmobile/ATV trail gets near the road. Then a total distance of 0.9 mile on the snowmobile/ATV trail east and winter road north to the east side of Denley Lake. The route is mostly black spruce/tamarack bog and limited to foot travel in summer.
Winter sampling found a good population of northern pike, four consecutive year-classes, indicating adequate natural reproduction to maintain the population. The average size was 20.7 inches (1.7 pounds) the largest northern pike was 2.2 pounds. Yellow perch were stocked in Denley Lake in 1994, it is not known if a fishable population exists in Denley Lake.
