History & Status of the Fishery
Beaver Lake is in ecological lake class #20. Lakes in this classification are small, moderately deep, low alkalinity lakes with clear water. These lakes are generally centrarchid lakes in the early mesotrophic stage.A rather simple fish community exists in this small relatively infertile lake. Northern pike were not sampled in the first survey and only two individuals were caught in this assessment. This low catch reflects what the anglers, we talked with, said about this species: very few but an occasional nice fish.Yellow perch were not abundant in this or the last survey (1.0/gillnet in 1972 and 3.3/gillnet in 1992).Both yellow and brown bullheads are present in this lake but not in large numbers. The yellow bullheads were not captured in the 1972 survey but improper identification of this species in 1972 could be a possibility. Both black crappies and bluegills were present in this assessment but below the first quartile for this lake classifcation.Largemouth bass were not sampled in either survey and their presence is not known. Stocking records indicate a 1957 introduction of450 largemouth bass fingerlings.
