History & Status of the Fishery
Occasional fish surveys are conducted to assess the Status of the Fishery and to evaluate stocked species. Herbicide use is kept to a minimum and used to enhance access for shore fishing. Sand Pond receives annual stockings of 8? to 10? Channel Catfish, 10? northern pike, 10? to 14? Rainbow Trout for both the spring and fall seasons and periodic stockings of largemouth bass to balance the fishery and provide sport fishing opportunities. Additional fish species captured during sampling: golden shiner, yellow perch, warmouth, white sucker, northern pike, and black crappie.

I think LakeLink has a mistake here. Sand pond at illinois beach state park in Zion is stocked with rainbow trout. I dont think sand lake has any.

For Bass, this lake is A+!!! There are some real trophy fish in this lake that seems to get little pressure.

I have caught some nice bass on rubber worms in the lake and nice crappies and have sen some decent size pike caught out of the lake in the 35" ranch. The lake gets very weed infested in the summer months.
