Ice access to Pistakee at Oak Park Lounge is closed for the rest of the season. A side-by-side went through across from the Lounge. I think an ATV went through also or started to go through while trying to help. They ended up having to call in the pros to recover the side-by-side. The air boat came out with the operation taking about an hour and half.
Ice was about 9" thick yesterday, but only about 6" today. Very little came off the top. It's melting fast from underneath. Even if you could still get on at OPL tomorrow, I wouldn't go out there, not even on foot.
That said, yesterday and today were steady if slow action, but only because we had to work to put fish on the ice. In the right spots, they frequently came through the holes in schools on the bottom and in the column, which kept us interested, but not many of the fish were more than interested. The camera revealed below what we eventually saw on the ice topside: Drum (kept 6 - 12" to 14"), white bass (dinks went back but kept the 12 incher), crappie (small - they went back), the occasional small perch (went back), and channel cat (3 stayed topside). Saw none of the more sought after species of fish.
Going out Sat. out of Oak Park lounge. They are hosting there fishing Derby.
Always a good time,I will be on a green and black 3 wheeler,Kawzilla.
Enjoy meeting fellow anglers, share ideas and have fun.
Good luck and Tight Lines!

Fished with Jeff today, starting at 06:30 to 1:30. Fished the south end of the bay and caught 2 perch, 2 gills, and one small crappie. The sheepshead were on fire !! I’ve not seen this many goats caught by so many people (and good news is people were keeping them). We donated a half gallon bucket full. They were biting the usual waxies, spikes on spoons or small tungsten jigs. Color did not matter. Ice depth at 14 inches and fish were caught in 10-12 feet.

We've been on the Bay by Oak Park Lounge this Monday and did ok for bluegills and got some crappie to harvest as well. My bro made a video from fishing testing some of his light weight setups for panfishing.
WAS OVER AT OPL AND SAW THE BARRICADES AND ORANGE MARKERS LIKE YOU SAID ....NO B.S. LOOKS LIKE THEY WANT THAT AREA OPEN TO TRAFFIC AS IT WAS VERY CONGESTED SUNDAY WHEN I WAS THERE LOTS OF CONES AND FLAGS ORANGE PAINT IN SNOW LOOKS LIKE A BIG DEAL BUT STILL PLENTY OF PARKING UP THE HILL JUST A 300FT HIKE UP AT THE END OF THE DAY....LOL 4WHEELER BE THE WAY TO GO.
What's the latest ice reports for Pistakee? Might venture out this weekend.
The guy/cousin we talked to today seemed 100% legit. He had no axe to grind at all...
Did you visit OPL today and see the signs/barricades yourself ?
I thought I was providing a public service.
If I'm wrong. I apologize here and now.
Edited to add: I've been going to Pistakee for many, many, years. It's a well known community hole.
I was not trying to keep people away by "making up a story".
Heck, maybe the "cousin" I talked to is full of baloney. A simple solution would be to call OPL before heading out.
I did not hear any of the news from OPL about no ice fishing parking. As of this evening I see no validity in the post. The ONLY place I can verify that parking is an issue is choppers.
PAY UP SUCKAS or find a new place to park! Your going to ruin a good thing.
Bad news for those who access Pistakee Bay from Oak Park Lounge.
This morning I talked to the owner's cousin. This gentleman stated that ice fishermen CAN NO LONGER PARK in the lot at the bottom of the hill by the launch/bar !!!
You can only park at the big grassy lot on the corner of Rolling Lane and the Oak Park Lounge sign, or that little cut out spot that might hold 5 vehicles 1/3 down the hill on the right.
There is signage and barricades everywhere down by the bar...
The man said that too many guys were not paying, and/or drunk and causing accidents. The paramedics were unable to get to the launch for an emergency last weekend.
