I have a FL-18 and a VX1. Both are good machines, but I prefer the Vexilar. The problem that I have with the VX1, is the 20 degree transducer. When fishing in deeper water, next to someone else using a flasher, it is almost impossible to eliminate interference. Other than the dual beam transducer that comes with the VX5, I have yet to find anything other than the 20 for the marcum. Using a vexilar transducer on the marcum didn't seem to work (way to much interference). When fishing by yourself, or a little ways away from another flasher, the VX1 is a fine unit. Just my opinion. Hope it helps.

i looked at both have friends that have one or the other. used a friends. i came across a lowrance x67c ice machine. my father-in-law has one and i think that it is very easy to use and the sensitivity is the same if not better than the vexilar or marcum. this unit also has 4 different screen views and all the adjustments a person would ever need. price tag is also a little less on these than either 2 previously mentioned. hope this helps

I own a fl-8se genz pack and it does the job but when uget around a bunch of people with the same vexilar the interference is rediculous. Also think about the new hummingbird flashers. They are pretty sweet looking.

Please listen to me. Don't but a MarCum. The design is good the product is not. I bought a MarCum LX-3tc. It did not work. The customer service is terrible. I will never deal with MarCum again. I bought a Vexilar for my son 10 years ago. It still works and we have never had a problem. There web site is outstanding and customer is second to none. Side note: I had a Zercom Colorpoint for about 10 years. Never had a problem and never had to test there customer service. The Marcum is very similar to my Zercom. I sold for the Zercom for $100 because it did not have the ability to block interference from other units. I wish I would have kept the Zercom. I just sent my LX-3tc in to Marcum by UPS, cost me $21.00. I hope if I get it back it works and I never have to deal with MarCum/Naturevision again. I would bet they will not stay in business long. I have spoken to a lot of Ice Fishermen who had very similar experiences with MarCum units failing and poor customer service. Crying

Gander does have the VX-1 at $199.00. Soft cases are around 20 bucks. Call the local Gander to reserve one, since they are always selling out of them.

I purchased a vx1pro tonight at fleet farm 274.00 was still unsure between the ice35 and marcum but i went with the marcum. I've used the fl8 but wanted zoom, hope its worth it. I really like the transducer bracket and holder. also comes with nice case.

Cabelas has the VX1-pro on sale for $279.99 but then you'll have to pay shipping. I got mine through the mail from a company in MN. Paid $300 free shipping. I love the VX1-Pro and I also had a Zercom for almost 10 years. I just find the colors easier to read than Vex. I have had NO problems with interferece sitting right next to a Vex FL8 and a Marcum LX-5. As far as I know the 400 watts more power is the only difference. Hope this helps your decision.

Oh I know these things are the cat's arse. I had a zercom colorpoint since about '97. It still worked fine when I sold it a couple months ago. This new Marcum is almost identical in design to that colorpoint so I hope I get another 10 years out of it!
