Thanks for the replies. Fishnut, I'm guessing those that you bought are the batteries plus brand? What is the reserve capacity on those 31s? I'm running the ipilot terrova 80lb thrust and looking to purchase batteries that will have the longest run time (reserve capacity). These two batteries are right up there.
eyesmelter,I just picked up 2-group 31 batteries for the I-Pilot and had just switched from the Maxx29,those batteries where from 04 so better safe than sorry, and so far I have had alot more battery life left over than I thought I was going to have.
And thats with doing alot of trolling at 1.6-2.0mph,I belive they where only $100 ea.
Reserve capacity gives the truest measure of the battery's performance under demanding troll motor use. It is defined as the discharge time at 25 Amp load and is an industry standard.
On the other hand, the A-H capacity is not defined by a standard, and the mfg's are free to choose the discharge rate. Do a little digging and you will find they undoubtably differ between the 2 batteries.
All other things equal, get the cheaper battery. Check date codes!
