Can anyone give me any pointers on this lake? I don't have a fish finder but looking to get into some panfish
Montello Lake, Marquette County
|@ the lake|
Anyone got an ice report? From southern Wisconsin looking to get on some good ice New Year’s Day
was the labor day can really tell there is a dam and the pier is under water and the dam farther away is not really a day its at the way up to it and the fish ladder is underwater
So what's going on with the dam
76° - 80° F
71° - 75° F
Using suckers and a long catfish rod with bobber and steel leader at a depth of 25". Caught 5 small and one medium size northern, plus one 14" smallmouth from pier. Also caught one northern with a larger shallow diving lure. Fish are hitting!
This is to clarify the geography of Montello's waters.
Montello Lake is a dammed section of the Montello River. It flows from Harrisville. Buffalo Lake is a dammed section of the Fox River flowing from Endeavor. Both dams are located in town. The short section of the Montello River below the dam flows into the Fox River just below the Buffalo Lake Dam. They are both man made lakes of dammed sections of two separate rivers.
Good luck fishin'!
A damned lake? Who cursed it?
As you move to the dam side of the lake the ice does get a little bit more thin. The ice is a solid 18' inches everywhere on the lake, but when you get out to the middle of the channel it gets to be like 8-10''. This ice is still able to hold ATV and trucks, don't know how the ice would be with the warm up and freeze.
Montello is a damed lake and a small river does flow thru it. As long as you stay away from the far north end where the river comes in, the ice should be safe
Montello Lake is not part of the river. Buffalo Lake is part of the river.
