History & Status of the Fishery
Lindberg Lake is a 95-acre lake located four miles southeast of the city of Clearbrook in Clearwater County. There is a county-owned public water access with an unimproved boat ramp and parking for 5 trucks/trailers located on the east shore of the lake. The ramp is located in a very shallow bay and is not suitable for larger boats. Lindberg Lake is managed primarily for Walleye, Bluegill, and Black Crappie.
Lindberg Lake is stocked with Walleye fingerlings. The 2017 Walleye catch rate of 4.5 fish/gill net was up considerably from 1 fish/gill net in the most recent survey (2010) and above the range found in similar lakes (0.50 to 3.83 fish/gill net), indicating that recent fingerling stockings have been successful. Walleye captured in 2017 ranged from 9.06 inches to 25.0 inches with an average size of 15.38 inches in length and 1.54 lbs/fish.
The 2017 Bluegill catch rate (7.89 fish/trap net) was below the median catch rate for similar lakes (13.83 fish/trap net). Bluegill had an average length of 5.34 inches, and Bluegill up to 8.94 inches in length were captured in the survey. Black Crappie were also captured in low numbers (0.44 fish/trap net) although the majority of Black Crappie exceeded 10 inches in length, with fish up to 11.54 inches in length captured in the survey.
Northern Pike are abundant in Lindberg Lake. The 2017 catch rate of 10.0 fish/gill net was above the range found in similar lakes (2.67 to 9.33 fish/gill net). Abundance in this range would be an excellent place to utilize the expanded 10 fish bag limit for Northern Pike under 22 inches (new in 2018). Northern Pike up to 35.83 inches in length were captured with an average size of 21.78 inches and 2.58 lbs/fish. Twenty five percent of Northern Pike captured exceeded 24 inches in length which compares favorably with many pike populations in the Bemidji area.
Largemouth Bass were assessed using night electrofishing. Ten bass were captured, measured, and released in about 40 minutes of effort. Lengths ranged from 5.6 to 16.9 inches with a mean of 10.5 inches. This was the first time an electrofishing assessment targeting bass was conducted on Lindberg Lake.
Other species of fish captured in the 2017 survey were Yellow Perch, Brown Bullhead and Pumpkinseed.
