I only live a couple miles from the Manitowoc Launch and appreciate the guys sometimes gals who share with me info as to their recent trip out. Perfect conditions Thursday AM for a rare solo trip at 76 next month it is not the launch but the solo netting. The fish cooperated this morning finding my net or in one case both nets. I set in at 3:45AM in 50ft., the screen had marks plentiful top half but I couldn't get anything to go the first 45 minutes between 50ft. and 60ft.. I was trolling a rigger spoon, a braided dipsy spoon; a wire dipsy flasher fly set. I slowly headed deeper and in 80ft. the braded dipsy rod with a spoon went about half way down a King. I had 5 strikes by 6:45AM and started pulling shortly after. The wire flasher fly dipsy took a King and a Steelhead running it deep at least 70ft. down. My rigger set 62ft. with a spoon took a king and the braided dipsy got a King and lost a nice fish. All my bites between 80ft. and 110ft. of water other boats scattered between 50ft. and 100ft.. Glad I threw a second net in the boat as it came in handy when I did the spoon in net but not the fish trick and was able to scoop under the fish with the second net. Good Luck.
Flat conditions Wednesday AM and still 49 degree surface temp. My son had an important obligation mid-morning his youngest was graduating 4th grade to middle school so we only fished a couple hours. It worked out. I starting setting in 85ft. but all 6 bites came between 100ft. and 130ft.. A 3 color with a moonshine orange hulk glow spoon took two hits but only one held the bow in pic. Our other 4 hits were deep wire dipsies with 8" bechholds and howie pro series flies in double aqua and aqua frog colors. The first Salmon a male had the line counter stop at 560ft..a male. My son said males run harder with the bait than females; sure enough I googled that and it is true. No Cotton Wood seeds yet, no fun. Good Luck.
Dead Flat conditions Friday AM off Manitowoc. Pelicans feeding on alewife in Harbor and Shoreline. I did a short solo run; stopped to look at finder in 50ft. didn't like what I saw so set in 75ft. and did a troll out to 180ft. and back to 120ft.. A dispy set 3 out 75 feet took a rip at 130ft. saw the fish jump twice then off dodger fly. At 150ft. had a solid hit on my 3 color running a green/orange pro king spoon was happy it eventually saw the net in pic. Continued out to 180ft. and turned but that was it before pulling in 120ft.. Surface temps were 49 degrees past 100ft. Stopped at Lates on way home for a pancake and coffee and a nice talk with an old work buddy. Good Luck.
