It was listed as "abundant" in 1980 but was only seen outside of vegetation transects in 1998.Island Lake was test netted in 1998, for the first time since 1980. Northern pike was the most abundant gamefish. The northern pike catch was in the "low" category when compared to similar type lakes and it was also lower than the 1980 catch. Pike averaged 21 inches and 1.8 lbs. in size, similar to the 1980 values. Several age classes were sampled, in about equal numbers, and growth was good. Bluegills were found in numbers considered to be "high," although the catch was well below the level found in 1980. A good number of age classes were present and growth was good. Nearly one-half of the catch was from the 1993 year class. About 6% of the bluegills were 7.0 inches or longer, similar to the 1980 value.
