Wisconsin Bear Hunting

i got a tag this year for bear hunting and i amm looking for some advice. i am wondering wear i should bait on my land. the last 2 years i have had a friend and a family member hunt the same stand and both have seen bear and got them on the trail camera at the same stand. my dad thinks that i should hunt on the other side of the land which is across a fairly messy swamp. do bears really travel that far and through that much just to get food. any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks. notice the screen name. that is literally the spot that the bear have been seen and that is not a joke. the spot is called bearhill and that is the name of the road we r closest to.

$1700 per client. I run 25 baits... sometimes a few more,  sometimes a few less depending on year. I start in early August and do half each day,  but I can bang them out in about 3 hours. Quick guesstimate is about 130 hours total over the course of a season.You said you could make more at kwik trip,  and I disagree. I guarantee I make a heck of alot more in the woods in 130 hours than I would at kwik trip....If I didn't,  my price would go up and I guarantee I'd book the same amount of clients I have for the last 15 years. People are willing to pay if you provide a service worth paying for.  

I guarantee!!  Not one single person. Will chime in and say they are willing to pay a daily half  fishing guide rate. To bait for bear  for 30/60/90/ days plus. Even if you could still find someone really cheap at $200 for a half day. But, you cant even hire a fishing guide right now in the area for twice that.  Yet, somehow a bear tag makes you entitled to not  have to pay for anything.  It's the Wisconsin bear learing hunt.  LMAO!!!

I agree if you bait for so long its expensive, it has to be.  Maybe WI should be more like MN and only allow it 2.5 weeks before the season.

Of all the nonsense posted about bear hunting. Seen the best yet today.  Dog hunters are running all the wolves into new areas.  Cmon. folks. puff, puff, pass.   

OK Big Mouth!! Prove me wrong.   How do they say the politically correct way now.  BE TRANSPERENT?  Post your FEE, the hours ​spent baiting. The cost of fuel, bait, ​vehicle repairs, batteries, cameras, blinds, stands, etc....

​Lets just see those hours spent baiting vs the rate you charge.    Bring that nonsense to the table. Then we will start to talk about those ​other expenses.   Just your rate vs hours baiting.  No ​expenses incurred to you otherwise. A bear learing center LOL!!!  I will be waiting!!  To hear how much more than qwik trip ​wages you are making .  LMAO!!!

I think that is more of an opinion than fact, good luck with the kwik trip application though.  

FUN FACT!!!!  Any local minimum wage paying gas station. Is willing to pay more than most of you for someone to bait for you.  Qwik Trip wages far, far, and far away from what you want to pay.  PROVE ME WRONG!!!   You cant!!   Do the math, hours, bait, gas, repairs.  Show me how its worth anyones time to help you in this state! I know, your time is worth more than everyone elses.. Because you waited 12 yrs for a tag.   Well, qwik trip pays better with benies.  But there is always a guy at menards in Rhinelander looking for work.  LOL

 

We have a tag, been baiting, lots of smaller bear, a couple of bigger bears. Now we’re starting to have issues with people. State land sucks at times.

Season is 2 months out from today. Who is going this year?

I forgot to mention, stands are up and I am not charging anything. I am having Bear problems and I ain't going to wait to get drawn so this is the next best thing for me.

I have received a tag for Zone D. I thought I had someone lined up but that has fallen through. I am open to sitting on bait or hunting with dogs. I waited 17 years to put in for the tag and hate to waste it. If anyone can steer me to a good guide or fellow hunter I would be much appreciated.

Its hear once again. The 2026 bear baiting season has started. Amazing how fast it comes.  Still cannot get to most of my baits. Roads closed,  some snowbanks, and very wet overall.  Might try to fire a few up this weekend.  However, with snow, ice, and 20 degree temps. Most likely will hold off another week.

big mac have you tried Jeese Quale at Green Water Walleyes? He guides on Castle Rock and Petenwell and offers guided bear hunts.

 Going to be very tough to find someone with experience & trust.
 But not alot of options. 
Not sure why no local outfitters/guides in the area.
 Although, in 3 years, I THINK I've only caught 1 bear on camera.
