2021/22 bow hunting reports

Had a little year and a half come in at 7am ish... Downwind and crossed walk in path and kept going... Cool to experience ground hunting in a marsh/crp area... Later went to check a cam close in area and got within 40 of a small doe with the sun at my back... Good check I'll be trying to hunt that area after working this weekend 2 nice bucks around there just no daylight pics will have to gameplan to move in close to suspected bedding provided they aren't in the corn there... All public land se wi..  tight(bow)strings and good luck everyone this season. I'm pumped!

No deer sighted from stand in Jefferson County.  However, I must have seen six big bucks chasing does in the open driving home.  Almost hit one.  Today is the day!

Rut full throttle. Lacrosse cty.

 Seen 8 deer between 4-5pm. 4 bucks and 4 Does.  All the bucks were moving swiftly. One of the  decent 8pts was giving good chase on the Doe pack (Doe+3 yearlings). One of the young 8pt grunted right by me. Seen the ugly buck I seen last week trailing behind in real nice 8 or 10pt on a mission. Jus deer watching. No shooter shots.

If you gun hunt opening weekend you might hunt smack in the middle of the rut.

My rut-cation was a bust this year. Made it out on Halloween weekend, no luck. Shortly after I had some bizarre health problems and eventually needed surgery that has had me laid up since. I was thinking I'd for sure make it out this weekend, but I don't think I will be physically able to now. I'm not healing as quickly as I thought I would. I will definitely be out opening weekend of gun season, but will see how far I can walk and if I can make it back to my primary area. 

Enjoy the time you are able to make it out, you just never know when something could happen. I was looking forward to the rut since last year and just like that, missed it completely this year.

Man it’s been a slow couple days for me. Did a full day sit yesterday and saw my 1st deer with 10 minutes of shooting time left and was just a lone doe. Today hunted 2-close and only saw 1 spike.  Rut??? 

Shot Nov. 1st 9:40am. Trusty old Matthews CreedXS, teamed up with  a Slick Trick at the business end. Big bodied deer.

Browning3, I see you need to work at shot placement,  ahahahaha   Nice deer, perfect shot. Way to go. 40 yard run post shot?

Shot November 2nd at 4:50pm. First mature deer I had seen from the stand that week.

Overall it was very slow for me the past weekend.  The weather was great, just not for deer hunting.  I saw a ton of deer one day and then very few the next.  Almost no rutting activity around us other than a few new scrapes and rubs popping up overnight daily.  I saw two nice bucks but neither presented a shot and with the blowing wind calling was pointless. One nice 10pt around 1:30pm on Friday and then a nice 8 pt around 2:30pm on Saturday.  My cousin ended up getting two does to fill the freezer, so not all was lost.

Great weekend in the woods if you were hunting squirrels, they were all over the place. Deer not so much, saw two all weekend. But blew my chance, had an 8 pointer at 25 yards Friday morning, just flat out missed a standing shot. No excuses ............. Back at it next weekend, I'm no quitter !! Just a lousy shot.

Younger brother and I scored on bucks this weekend. Between that and my birthday I had a long Monday today. We have had a good season. Older brother is king for this year. 

Nice bucks guys. Congrats to all who have scored a deer, and good luck to anybody still at it. Some of the best hunting is yet to come for those who are willing to keep grinding. 

Sat tonight and had one doe trot by. She was on a mission to get somewhere. About 10 minutes later there was some activity in the brush/marsh grass that I couldn’t see. Did hear several bleats though. By dark all was quite. Warm enough to bring out a few mosquitoes.

Morning sit in jefferson Cty. got in stand at 5:54. At 5:57 heard steps coming right at me. Single deer about 10 yards away, couldn’t see what it was. Reached for my bow and he (assuming) busted me. only deer all morning. still no grunts, chasing, fighting, etc. to date. Weird.
