Berkley Powerbaits - Overpriced, or really that good?

I was at a local shop picking out some new colors for 3" twister tails. I'm looking at the Berkley Powerbaits and noticed they're significantly more expensive than the tons of other brands.

I have to admit, that I normally just reach for the Berkley brand, but is it really worth the premium? There's two factors: 1. The scent and 2. The material they're made of.

I have noticed that Berkley soft plastics are more pliable that some of the other brands, but as far as the scent goes, I have no real data to compare with other brands.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on this?

Thanks, BF

I like powerbait. I also like gulp. The price doesn't bother me. I guess it probably adds up, but I'm willing to pay for the stuff that I like. I use other plastics with success but i feel like the berkley does get em going sometimes. I fished with gulp alot this summer. Sometimes, I found that the powerbait was better than the gulp and sometimes it was the other way around. I keep both in my tackle bag. My favorites are the red shad 4" turtle backs for gulp and for powerbait black or red or red shad 4" power worms with the curly tail. I carry other brands of worms too, the northland curly-tail ringworm in red does good for me as well. For me, i have a few different lakes I go to and I do better with a different plastic on each one. But I almost always use something with red or black.

In my own simple research I have found that Berkeley Powerbait has out fished all other plastics, scented and non-scented, that I have tried.

I haven't fished with the Gulp enough yet to draw a conclusion on it.

I like the results I get with Powerbait and will continue using it. Even when ice fishing I find that the Powerbait Honey Worms in the natural color many times catch more fish than live wax worms.

I have to wonder about how those studies are done. They say "regular plastic" but I'd be willing to bet they mean unscented, plain old plastic. So, compared to that, I'm sure Powerbait is going to perform better than that. What I wonder is how the Powerbait plastics compare to Yum, Zoom, etc. And just to clarify, I'm leaving Gulp out of this. That's in a different class in my opinion. Maybe next spring I'll conduct my own experiment - like I need an excuse to go fishing. Big Smile -BF

BigMusky, yea, I think Gulp has a unique spot on the market, although Gulp is *REALLY* expensive in my book. So, it sounds like you think the regular Powerbait plastics are the same as anyone else's.

Maybe I should take a look at the Zoom baits. I've heard good things about them and they don't cost as much as Berkley.
