I don't have a users manual for my 1990 75 horse Mercury motor, but my warning beeper starting beeping when I was out last. I filled up the oil but it still beeps even when I turn the switch to the first notch without cranking the motor. Any ideas why this would be beeping?

Thank You, Scott K.

The merc motor will beep for three different reasons. 1- low on oil, or oil not getting to the motor, or sensor is bad. 2-water in the fuel, should have a filter on it with a water sensor. 3- overheating. Mine would come on with just the key on, or running. I had water in the filter. nozone

I had a 94 40 horse an the beeping is a sensor in the oil tank , an the best thing about is that Merc made it so that u would have to buy a whole tank an that sucks, Its about 75 to a 100 dollars an there is another one on it to that has rubber on the out side of it an glass in side so be careful not to break it when you take it apart!!! I had a 75 merc not sure of year, 90s, it was something with the oil cap, either ther is a sensor connected to it that was bad or there are breather holes in it that got plugged. either way new cap, no more beeping.

is it a beep beep beep or a steady beep you could have sucked some weeds and the water flow was down so it may have been over heating. There are 2 different tones one for the oil one for the temp. Like Steve said make sure the remote tank under the schroud is full

On some Mercury outboards, there is a remote oil tank that is in the boat, and a reserve oil tank that is under the cowl of the outboard.

If your outboard is set up like this, and you ran low in the remote tank, the outboard would then begin pulling from the reserve tank. This tank does not automatically refill when you top off the remote tank.

You have to remove the cowl and fill the reserve tank in order to get the beeping to stop!

Of course your engine could be different in which case all of this typing was for nothing! :-)

you could have a bad sensor. My dads went ou on a 60hp merc this summer. We replaced it for $20.
