Ditto,
Agreed, Anyone can answer these questions with a little bit of research. I just wonder how many actually will do the research. Lets face it, Some of these people are the same ones that break the law first and plead ignorance later. I would hope that the true sportsman that is going to conceal carry would take te time to get their questions answered and really understand the laws.
I hope my post wasn't taken as an insult. Just wanted to re-inforce the fact that there are many laws one needs to fully understand while they are carrying.
For the record - The class I took was very informative. If anyone is interested, It was given by "On Target Training". The instructor is a Police officer based in the Sheboygan Area. Here is his facebook page:

The right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Yes I can open carry, however if it rains and I want to protect my sidearm and myself I can't put on a raincoat and legaly carry B.S. Thats an infringement. $50. permit fee thats an infringement. If and when I am caught carrying illegaly,I would challenge the constitutionality of this law.
For example, during a traffic stop, do you need to tell the officer you are carrying? Do you need to tell a game warden if approached? Are you allowed to use deadly force during a robbery? Etc... The list goes on and on.
These are all simple questions to be answered and are readily available to anyone who does even the smallest amount of research. No you do not need to tell a Cop or Warden you are carrying unless they ask if you are. No you are not allowed to use deadly force during a robbery unless you, or others around you, are in immediate threat of death or great bodily injury. You can not use deadly force to protect property.
I know a lady who went through the class offered by Fleet Farm, she shoots trap a couple times a year and that's the extent of her firearm experiance. She said the class was insulting it was so useless!
fist of all, Hunters Safety never should have been allowed to qualify a person for Concealed Carry. I am a HS instructor and I can tell you that the class doesn't even come close to preparing someone for the responsibility of CCW. I took a CCW class just so I had the ability to answer questions if they we asked. My instructor is a local police officer and he did an awesome job. It was a 4 hour class with about 75% of it being review of the legal aspects of the law.
I personally found out a lot that I didn't know, and you wouldn't know if you didn't take the class. For example, during a traffic stop, do you need to tell the officer you are carrying? Do you need to tell a game warden if approached? Are you allowed to use deadly force during a robbery? Etc... The list goes on and on.
All I am really saying is that CCW is a very serious choice and everyone should now what the consequences for your actions could be.
Thankfully ditto is here on every firearm related thread to throw his two cents in and constantly tell people they are wrong. He seems to know everything about these topics. Ask him, I'm sure he will tell you the same. He may know when deadly force is justified, but my guess is only 50% of ccw permit holders can actually give a reasonable answer to that situation. Hunter's safety is a good tool for teaching people how to handle long guns in the field, but has no information about ccw. The people ditto "knows" that took a class and knew everything already are the same type of person he is. Not everyone is that way.
gocritter, do you know how to read? It's been all over about what you can and can't do with on concealed permit and when you can use deadly force. It's pretty much common sense after all. I know people who went through classes and they learned nothing that they didn't already know.
I agree that HS didn't do anything to teach about concealed carry, but then again it doesn't do much for teaching hunters safety either.
You people that think your hunter safety class is good enough for your conceal carry permit had better have a very good attorney on speed dial. Did hunter safety explain in detail all of the legal complications that can arise having to do with all the rules that were never explained to you?
For Wisconsin I just used my Hunter's Safety card and I rate HS at a solid F, not for concealed carry vut for it's intended purpose.
When I lived in Iowa I got my permit and would give that class a solid A+, it took 90 minutes including 2 15 minute breaks and 30 minutes for a test that took me about 5 minutes to finish! It was given by a Sheriff Deputy who said at the begining that we would all pass. One of the questions on the test was does a revolver cylinder rotate clockwise or ccw? First off who cares? And second it depends on the manufacture. I went up and asked if he was talking about a S&W that rotates CCW or a Colt that rotates CW? He took my test from me, stamped it "PASSED" and said I could leave! LOL!
I took mine down in Tennessee where I live. I consider my class to be a solid b+.... But then again, my class was taught by a detective sargeant that I know. And I scored high in the shooting portion of the class. All 50 rounds within the center mass of the chest...
