Lurebuilding forum

Since there is not specific forum here at Lake-Link that pertains to lurebuilding, I have created a forum specifically designed for those of us who build our own lures or tinker with them. This forum is a place that we can exchange ideas & tips, show your creations, talk about your lurebuilding tools, ask questions, etc.
If you are interested, please check out http://the-lureboratory.proboards.com/
Hope to see you there.

I like to use Swedish pimples for perch through the ice. They sink fast and I think they tend to attract groups of perch that are cruising the mud flats. Occasionally I lose one to a northern or for various other reasons. I could buy more for about $3 apiece, but can make them for almost nothing. I use old forks and knives from the kitchen. Cut up the handles, grind a bit, drill holes, and then use split rings or snap swivels on either end. I just use a single hook and tip it with a waxie. The perch like them as well as a store bought pimple.
I made my first set of 1/8 oz jigs, did the powder coat & bake to cure method of coloring them. The directions said bake @ 350 for 20 minutes, which I kind of did. I baked at 350 convection for 20 minutes (that's what I cooked the beef roast at) and some of the powdercoat kind of ran on the jigs. I guess convection cooks hotter and faster than standard baking when it comes to jigs too. Live and learn I guess.
Roggie, blade baits are made in a mold. The metal blade is placed in the mold and then lead is poured in.

I got a spinner making tool from Fleet and really started making more once I caught some fish with them. The big one is for pier casting. In the second pic I painted some of the blades black on the back side. I'm experimenting with some 30# flouro snelled on octopus hooks and rigged with glass and metal beads. Bling for fish...
Yea, you'll need something to rotate your lures while they are drying with the clear coat. I just used a rotissere wheel and rigged it to hold lures.
Most of the stuff I paint is repaints..I either buy cheap lures and paint them the way I want or use older lures that haven't been used a lot and just repaint those.
I just started painting my own baits. Is there a way to upload photos from a iPhone? Or if you have instagram, you can see some there. My user name is eyeguy87. I still gotta clear coat and add hooks. Any input would be great. Came acrross a free compressor and airbrush. Just started and it's a lotta fun.
