Fly Fishing
beaver Ponds

Years ago (10 not 30) we stumbled on a very large beaver pond, that was teaming with native brookies. The kind that just glow with color. This pond was probably a good ten acres in size and not at all far from the nearest road, in fact there was a two track running right to it and a four-wheeler trail running within 100 yards of it. We caught so many brookies out of there in the three or four seasons before it finally started to go downhill that it was almost too easy. This was before I discovered fly fishing and most of the fish were caught with spinners or worms. Finally it was blown out by the DNR. I miss it terribly. Did I mention the size? i caught lots of 12-14 inchers.
I realize they are not overall good for a stream, but damn there can be some good fishing in there before they silt up.
