for crank bait fishing i use these....by far the best solution if you are like me and change cranks alot...you can get them @ other places but this gives you an idea on the different sizes available....i have had every other type fail @ one time or another when using the smaller size clips or they start to wear out and get weaker...depending on crank bait size i use the #1 or #2 (i have #0 also but not for lake michigan...they are tiny)...take off the split ring on the crank and this clip is about the same weight so lure action & depth aren't effected...i use a ball bearing swivel about 3 ft. above the snap with a flourocarbon leader to prevent line twist between the spinning reel and the crazy trout fights i feel you should have a swivel but don't like them attached to the snaps because of bulk and weight

I've been using the Rostco coastlock snap swivels for a long time in salt and fresh water with great results. Some guys like the Sampo ones that aren't supposed to come open as easily, but to each their own. I'm personally turning more towards direct tie to split rings, or just using split rings connected to good swivels like Spros and such. Cheers!
I have been using the duo-lock type snaps with rounded ends where they attach to the line and where they attach to the lure for years. Mainly with Shad Raps but with others also, but not with the really small cranks as it does seem to affect them more. The biggest thing is no swivels, they really mess up a lure's action. I found that even though the snap may affect the lure's action a little, I still catch more fish because I am more likely to change lures.
Tight Lines,
