Cliff Lake
2/29/12 @ 7:32 PM
Has anyone been to Cliff Lake and Lost Bay resort. I am planning a trip to Canada this summer with my family for some fishing with my own boat. Any info on this lake or recommendations of another would be greatly appreciated. We have never been anywhere up there, so trying to make a memorable one to start a tradition. Thanks

You should check out WWW.birchdalelodge.com they are on Eagle Lake, you would drive right by them on your way to Cliff Lake. It's a great lodge with with excellent owners, cabins and equipment. Their american plan is unique because you choose off of the Bullpit restaurant (on the premises) menu, so everyone doesn't have to eat the same thing. They also have upgrade cabins with hot tubs in them if you like. Eagle Lake is a great lake offering walleye, musky, northern, smallmouth, lake trout and perch. my group has stayed with them the last 23 years and will return this September for our 24th year. They will take great care of you and your family. You can also call the owners, Cheryl and Marcel Pinette at the lodge at 807-227-5262.
I have fished Cliff for easily more than 15 years and I really like the lake. That said, remember that it is very clear trout water so high skies can be very....very tough for muskies and walleyes. We have some in our group of 10+ guys that can fish the lake everyday and others that call it the dead sea. These guys like a little easier fishing with more action for walleyes and pike. I would not plan to have a shore lunch of walleyes on Cliff; it's doable but on many days you will be hungry or eating bass or pike or lake trout.
The outlakes that you have access from Lost Bay are a lot of fun, but also a fair amount of work to get do and cannot be accessed by large boats (resorts boats are fine). The one we like for muskies (large walleyes too -- C&R only please) is little evening, but this requires going through two rivers (several beaver dams) and one portage. Twightlight is another fun lake (walleyes, muskies, and pike) but too requires a lot of work (three rivers lots of beaver dams) to get to. None of the outlakes are a simple boat ride. If you don't mind the hard work, they are good numbers lakes and a lot fun.
The guys in the group that call Cliff the dead sea will fish the out lakes or if they want action oriented walleye and pike fishing will go to Cedar, Ord, or Lac Seul.
If you are a musky nut, cliff is a good choice, but if you want the fast-action Canada walleye experience, I'd recommend trying something else.
I know quite a bit about Cliff. Great muskies, great smallies, great lake trout. Decent walleyes, and the ones you get will be large.
The lake is quite big, but it has a lot of fingers, so no matter how windy it is, you can usually find a bay or shoreline that is sheltered.
Different parts of the lake are better for muskies and trout. So, when you get up there, have them tell you where to go for the different species.
If you want to have some fun, ask to see if you can get into the other lakes that can be reached by going up a river. I think the lakes are Mystery, Evening and Twilight. I think that they have two other little lakes that you can be taken to as well.
The accomodations are great and you will love the fishing.
