Today we received 12"-15" of fresh heavy snow in Iron, Ashland and Price Counties. This is good packing snow, so the trails should be in great shape for early March riding. Come on up and enjoy the beauty of the Northwoods!
The Son & I went for a 27 mile ride here in Walworh Co last eve. The trails were/are open & we got about 6" or so inches of fresh snow. I like 'ditch riding' almost as much as the trail. We use a few rural township roads for 2+ miles to get to the trail. The road edges are great during & just after the snow event. Later on they get plowed way back & not as good.
We may go out again later today, & join the masses ready to get the cobwebs out of their engines.
Trails in the Hurley area were fair at best this past weekend. The heavy traffic really put a hurt on them, and the warm weather this week will not help. The connecting UP trails were actually in worse shape, as everyone headed that way hoping for better snow. Trails were poor up there due mostly to heavy use. Another 10-12" of heavy snow will really improve conditions, and give the groomers something to work with.
Ride safe !
8"-12" of fresh snow is forecasted by Friday, Jan. 13th, 2012 in the Mercer, Wi. area so riding should be great. Combine that with ice-fishing the TFF and it should be a fantastic weekend.
Enjoy and embrace the Winter!
What snow, what winter?
Southern WI there is nothing around at all, even no safe ice in the bays for ice fishing. Only a trace of snow a week ago and it melted in the morning, what a joke?
Travel way up in the northern UP or upper WI to get some decent snow if willing to travel.
I bet Lake Mendota doesn't freeze over this year at all especially predicting mid 40's later this coming week.
Snowmobiling in the Mercer and Hurley, Iron County, Wis area is about to become great with the prediction of up to 4" of snow on New Years Eve and up to 18" of lake effect snow on New Years Day evening. See www.turtleflambeauflowage.com and www.mercercc.com for lodging info and trail reports.
