Fished Johns Lake for the first time attempted for trout...no luck. Saw 2 monster browns, 24 inches??? One I had hooked but broke off. Fished 3 hours using spoons, rapalas, crawlers, minnows, leeches with the only action coming on leeches. Appeared to have a strong thermocline established at 10-12 feet around the lake. Most fish marked were 7-15 feet scattered over the lake. Also got a few small largemouth 8-10 inches. Didn’t see any fish in the shallows. No panfish anywhere. Water was 74-76 and clear. Fished the worst possible time 10am-130pm and it was HOT as hell. I’d imagine overcast or lowlight would fare better.
Any tips on trout here would be greatly appreciated. I’m new to the trout thing and only would fish them occasionally.
Big hills is a pretty lack that gets a lot of boat traffic during the day. I would suggest getting out early and late. Lots of dink bass if you work around the many docks.
My family and I have a cottage rented on Big Hills during the week of EAA. I have never fished or boated this lake but will be doing a lot of both during our stay. If anyone with knowledge of this lake could PM me with any fishing tips, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Not sure about Waushara, but Lake Emily in Portage Co was always good for bullheads. Go at dusk. There is a public spot on the south side of lake or can fish just west of the beach area to the right when you get down the long set of stairs (77 steps).
anybody know of any place where i can get decent bullheads from shore.
I am coming up this weekend and was looking for advice on a lake to try. Right now I am leaning towards Pine, Big Hills, or Long Lake. Which lake would be my best bet for panfish and maybe a shot at a walleye or pike>
Any fisheree’s on Sat?
Headed to Wautoma to my inlaws and will be sneaking out immediately to go fishing. I was thinking of trying Lake Lucerne. I usually hit Foxtails but want to try something different. Any info greatly appreciated. Looking for anything that bites. Usually jig for panfish and throw out 2 tipups.
If you want any info on Madison lakes, let me know. Fish them constantly.

fished for about 3 hours.Had 5 flags ....3 15''-16" pike lost one bigger one at the hole.Cleats are definitely needed.Great little lake for kids chasing tip-ups as it seems to be so full of pike.I don't like to name it as its not very big and from talking to people who live on the lake last year it gets really over fished. most of the comments are "when there freezer is full they'll stop fishing out here". The home owners are trying to get a smaller bag limit but to no luck.Feel free to p.m me as i can name it or give direction to fish pike on the lake
