Yeah the grass was a pain. I don't troll just cast cranks so with the mainly north wind that night we worked the Michigan side and the weeds were not as bad. I had 70 degree water on Sat. night.

Polski - great they were there for you.

A late report - water temps are sloooowlllly coming down. Water was at 73 degrees. Fished Thursday night from 7 till 10 with nothing exciting happening except the floating grass everywhere. Fished Friday morning for a few hours and then Friday night for several hours. The grass is making the troll difficult. Exciting catch for the 2 days was a 35 inch northern.

Usually don't fish the weekends much less a holiday but rain cleared out last night and the wind died down so we went. Wife and I fished from 6 till 9, got 4 perfect eaters, 3-17" eyes and 1 18". Nice night, there was some kind of bug hatch going on, looked like over size mayflies?

Fished the river from 9-5 the other day. Fished from hattie to the mouth trying for sheepshead or anything that would bite. Tons of sturgeon jumping around hattie. Caught a few little smallies around the light house. Extremely tough day of fishing. Ended it with thrown out back from towing a stranded boat.

I fish the Menominee occasionally mostly for perch, walleye and bass. I know the salmon and trout come in the river in the fall and have fished for them using yarn and flies. I'm planning on coming out this weekend and possibly trying to vertical jig the mouth and out past the gap into the bay. Has anyone done it or had much luck? Thinking jigging spoons in 30-50' of water, really would love to catch some trout, maybe a king.

Fished last night with my wife from 7 till midnight. We got 9 nice eyes and lost a few near the boat. The fish of the night was when my wife hooked into this sturgeon. It was snagged in the dorsal fin and then got tail wrapped. One heck of a fight for her and also for me trying to get it in the net. Took a quick pick and back in the water. I'll estimate it at 50", my ruler in the boat is only 36".

SteveFrench, got it.

I am new to the area, but have been reading your reports for a couple of years

I really appreciate all the helpful info.

We fished the river from the railroad bridge all the way out to the mouth.Fished three mornings 7/26,7/28, and 7/30. Fished all mornings 5:30am to about 9:00am.caught a nice mixed bag of walleye, smallmouth, rock bass and bluegill.used mostly jig and leech. seemed like the walleye were between 7-12 ft.

All in all a very enjoyable three days.

I will try to give more info as I learn also some pics.

Thanks for all the help

As a kid and until the new interstate bridge was constructed oh, I dunno 10 or 15 years ago now????  I used to fish with my dad on the interstate bridge late at night (after 10 pm) and catch walleye and crappie just using a maribu jig. Yellow was the best color for the walleyes and white worked best for the crappie.  We'd see trollers go by and get a few in that area as well and people fishing on Stevenson Island usually got a few at night as well.  Man I miss that old bridge!
