I went to Oconto today. We didn't catch any small fish. Maybe 15 total but 5 were over 28". And other boats around us were also catching fish. One boat landed a 34" brown trout. Not a single report. I do plan to post a report on that thread, but let's hear your thoughts on whats the problem with reporting.

Agree with a lot of what has been said regarding keeping tight lipped on things . People put the work in and time, have success why post? I have used this resource over the years, monitoring certain bodies of waters I'm familiar with looking to confirm some things before I may head out in that direction. I take great pride in trying to figure things out on my own once there! Fishing for me started with a cane pole and a can of worms(sometimes dug up from a compost pile) , first boat was wooden and had two oars. Times change , locators , underwater cameras, apps , chips, trolling, social media, etc. . Bottom line, get out get a line in the water and Relax. enjoy the challenges of fishing and all it has to offer. LL, has been a great resource to stay connected, generalized fish reports are helpful, as long as we remain sportsman about things and respect others. Is this still possible?
no offense, but every time this topic comes up, and it has a number of times since the beginning of Lake-Link, it's like a remake of a movie, same replies, different actors....

There are 4 small lakes that my son & I have fished pretty much every spring for panfish. Nothing huge, but you'll catch a nice mess of fish, and there are no motors allowed! Can you think of a better setting than a nice spring day, rowing around a lake and catching fish? I can't. Again, as it should be, I don't tel lthe name of the lakes because next weekend they would all look like the Fox River in the spring!
Here's my EXACT report from a few years ago on a lake I stayed on (450 acre lake, no public access). I wanted to at least provide a report that I was on the lake and had a little bit of success:
Stayed on the lake here last week, 8-26 until 9-2. Fished mostly the last two hours before dark, as that seemed to produce the best, although one cloudy day we caught some bass - largemouth, smallmouth, and rock bass in the same spot. Nice crappie in here and some descent bass. Pretty much need to know someone that lives on the lake or stay at the resort in order to fish this lake, but I'm ok with that. Will be back same time next year. Also fished a couple other lakes in the area and mostly got bass.
I see nothing wrong with posting a report that tells people you caught some fish. Big deal, almost every lake has some fish in it. Now, if I had said right where I caught the fish, or posted pictures with the background in it, that'd be different. I'd do that on a much bigger lake, maybe, but not on a lake this size!

No harm in saying you caught some smallies jigging some deeper drop-offs with a leech or similar...
Well said Bemedji! I used to go back and forth with a guy on Lake Link that didn't understand my warnings when he was giving specific information about where he was fishing on a certain lake during ice fishing season. The next weekend he had guys all around him as he even posted the color of his shack. He private messaged me and said I was right. There are too many lazy fishermen out there. Posting pictures of success does no good, especially on inland lakes. Isn't the fun of fishing trying to find spots and techniques for yourself?
Have you ever been to depere on the Fox river late March early April it's a zoo to put mildly. Like said cause there's 10+ reports a day of fish being caught some trophies so everyone shows up from Wisconsin Minnesota and Illinois. a lot I've seen keeping under sized fish cause they are to lazy to check the regs. But yeah my 550 acre lake I'll never post a photo under that lakes name or exactly what part of my favorite river i fish so it keeps producing like has for 40 years and it's not in Wisconsin. I use the info like how thick is the ice or are the docks in or river level and water temp etc. But if you want to post pics of some nice fish to ahead and expect more company next time out. Also fishing tv shows usually ruin a good lake or river pretty easy I've seen it happen.
So few actual reports because there is no better way to ruin your lake than post a report on Lake Link. Reports from Lake Michigan or Green Bay are one thing but NEVER NEVER put a report on here about your favorite Wisconsin fishing hole. If you want to know where the fish are biting go try a lake yourself or ask at the local bait shop.

I really liked your post. It showed me that as long as people utilize the fish they catch, there's nothing wrong with keeping smaller ones. In fact it's better for the fishery. And I'll bet those smaller perch make fine pickled fish instead of the occasional northern I catch for pickling. I think I'll try it this year, since there are so many small perch up north. Staying within catch limits of course. 3 crappies, 4 bluegills, and 10 small perch for pickling is more than enough for me and my wife.

Brent, as far as the size of fish you keep, you're right, to each his own. I learned a valuable leeson in regards to this. I was ice fishing one day and I saw that a gentleman was keeping perch in the 3 1/2 to maybe 5 inch range and I asked him, rather sarcastically, "Why do you keep such small fish, those are our future!" and he responded, " I pickle them, and the small ones pickle best as the pickling process deteriorates the bones." Makes sense. Boy did I feel "small." I have since realized that when you buy your license, that license avails you to keep any size (legal) fish that you want.
