Have you ever lost your enthusiasm for fishing?

It's weird. In my 20s, I'd fish anytime I could. Multiple days in a row. Middle of a hot summer day....freezing cold fall weather....Never got tired of it. Now, in my 40s, I still enjoy fishing, but I can go weeks without fishing and it's not a big deal. I'm not depressed. I just enjoy other things in life at this stage. I still love to ice fish as much as I can. But, being in the boat in the summertime or casting along a river just doesn't appeal to me as much as it used to. Anyone else experience this? Does the appeal to fish come back? Kind of never thought I'd get to this point and I'm actually totally ok with it.

Years ago I use to go to Canada every June. Fished nonstop for 4 straight days and caught hundreds of Walleye's and Northerns. After getting back home I had almost no desire to fish in Wisconsin. Really spoiled me fishing in Canada. Once I stopped going to Canada I started fishing in Wisconsin again and enjoyed it. Still like fishing now as long as I can catch something.

I lost mine for open water fishing a couple years after moving on water....  Doesnt make sense to trailer a boat travel to fish AND having fished the same <100 acres for 15 years its gets a bit redundant...   I do however still LOVE ice fishing...  Havent even put my boat in yet, it's still in the driveway

Yup. The feeling can come back depending on the situation. To me muskie fishing felt like a job and it sort of was. Fishing in 4 muskie leagues and doing a bit of guiding did that to me. I had to stay on top of fish and couldn’t really experiment with off the wall ideas that “shouldn’t” work but often they do.

Sure, the numbers of fish that found their way to my boat were impressive during that time but it simply wasn’t worth it. I still enjoy it but once I scaled back and began turning it back into a hobby again it got better. It meant getting back to letting my thought process reside far, far outside of the box doing things that work well but only a few would be goofy enough to try.
