Im 14 and my mom and I are looking for a spot or stretch of the river for smallmouth. New to fishing this river. I'm also looking for a good catfish area and I'm not sure where that would be. PM me if you can. Thanks

Fished this past Sunday morning from 6:30 to 9:00. Started with lures and had a few bites and only one taker. Switched to nightcrawlers suspended 16 inches below a small bobber, and between my son and I, we caught over 50 fish. Nothing to brag about, as they were small. We caught a nice variety for something to do when all of the other lakes we have been fishing are not producing right now. We caught smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, bluegills, green sunfish, carp, and creek chubs.

In our area that we were fishing, there were two flyfishermen wading, and one guy fishing nightcrawlers off of the bottom. The flyfishermen said they only cuaght a couple fish. The guy fishing off the bottom was catching smallmouth and hooked into about a 10 to 12 lb carp that he eventually got to shore and then it broke his pole in 2 places. My son and I watched the whole thing.

Hello FrozenFinger,

It looks like you have had a great deal of success on the Dupage. I am looking to get into fishing the Dupage and was just curious where you usually get in the river from. Thank you!

AP check out my reports on the other dupage thread, smallies are not sluggish, nor are the largemouth, Been going alot as of late and im having 25+ fish days every time out. Current seems are best right now, ran out of minnows the other day and started throwing a rooster tail gold blade, buddy threw a beetle spin chrome blade and everything was inhaling them. Crappies, largemouth, smallmouth even some gills both minnows and spinners, and I mean burning them fast too.

Keep at it, they are active right now GL

Anyone been out yet for smallies? Im wondering if its still too cold yet for them and they are sluggish. I dont have the water temps. I'm itching to get out there, but was wondering if Im wasting my time or at least have a slow day. Thanks! A slow day is better than no day out there at all!

Got out today from 1-530 fishing near downtown naperville. picked up a couple dinks early with poppers. chartruese was the ticket. My silver/gold pattern got caught in a tree and had to switch to my friends extra popper. picked up a couple more. then my friend got the first quality fish of the day with a solid 15 incher. then walked our way over to the other side of downtown and they really turned on. got about 5 each including 4 more 15+ inchers. great day to be out, smallies were on.

I'm looking to do some serious Smallie fishing this season on both branches of the DuPage, mostly around Butterfield Rd.

Anyone have any tips?

Try right in downtown naperville near the bridge and the rosebud. I have done well up and down there with a 1/16 jig and twister.
