Cedar Lake, Ontario
Had a great time August 29 on Cedar Lake with John's Outdoor Adventures. First time on Cedar and first time with John, couldn't be happier. Only thing better is if the winds had been lighter. Thanks John for taking the time to show us a great crappie experience.

You got that right.got some boys coming from des moines.they are bring some sweet corn,pork tenderloin and rib eyes.lol.they are trying out Clark's KC,s camp on Edward lake which is on the Indian lake chain.Ill be taking them out 2 days there for walleye/muskie.Hope I'll have a good report.
Had a crappie day planned for Cedar Lake and yesterday myself and 6 guys from Iowa met at Clarks.We launched our boats there and took one rental boat.Wind was still a issue as it has been all week but Cedar Lake is laid out pretty nice where you can get out of the wind.It was still very windy in a couple of spots we fished but the results we had was worth it.Guys were amazed at the size of the crappies and at the rate we catching them.There has been posts saying the crappies are down or a 7 year cycle is the culprit causing them to be slower this year. yesterday's fishing proved all that wrong.we all ended up catching a bunch of walleyes throughout the day also.The other private boat had a bbq on board and we were all served some hot pork burgers with everything premixed in,That was a real treat.

Thanks so much for the information. We are guilty of not actively targeting them in the weed beds. We will need to give that a try. Our attempts at catching the crappie have been with plastic/gulp on wind blown points. We stumbled into a few but never any concentration of them.
We know they are there just need to refine the location/presentation.

Mac there is no need to travell very far for the perch.they are all over cedar.spend your time looking there.all the weed beds and rock piles have them.not all huge but you have to filter through them.maybe your not fishing for them the right way.weedless jigs defiantly help you out or a drop shot with a weedless hook also works great and of course a slip bobber.nelson lake is very good.east bay.4 o'clock bay2 nd narrows.and time square can go on and on.did real well on perch last week and the crappies are on fire to.try the diff ways to fish them.
Thanks so much for the feed back even though it is discouraging. We are not adverse to exploring the area to find a new bite. This being our second year at Cedar and having 3 boats in the water we intend on expanding our knowledge of this incredible body of water.
I'm certain you can spend a lifetime just on one arm of this lake and still never fully understand it completely. That is why we are back to give it another swing, can't wait till Sept. 7th to wake up to the loons of "Times Square".

We're at rocky shores lodge on perrault right now and fished Spadina yesterday and it sucked. Lots of boats and small perch. 4 in our group and dont think we had 5 perch over 10 inches. I wouldn't make the trip from cedar. Was there 2nd week of june too and same story. 2 years ago caught lots of perch over 10 inches but guess we all kept too many fish. Good luck and hope the weather changes fast.
Mac, we go up in spring and again in fall. We are going to try exploring water out that way, I heard that Spadina got pounded pretty hard this summer for the perch. We do pretty well, time to explore some new water. We are not going up for another month. We never ran into lots of crappie or perch, but enough to keep us trying.

1Jigfish2 thanks for the input. We will hit all of the regular structure as usual. Some times it's rock sometimes it's weed edges. That is the challenge that we enjoy on this type of water. This being our second year we have high expectations because we eliminated a lot of marginal water in 2018.
Did you have any luck on the crappie and perch? That trip up to Perrault sounds like an adventure that might be worth the trip for some of the jumbo perch it holds.
Rainy day today, so might as well pack some of my stuff and get ready for this trip.

Mac Da Gaff, Cedar is typical, it is all structure fishing. Any big points, rock humps, and drop offs..
From your resort, fish directly to the right when leaving camp, that shoreline after the first bay can be good.
Another is straight across, little point just south of big island.
Another is shore lunch are on small island southeast of camp, fish the area about 16’ off of picnic area.

Gearing up for our second trip to Cedar Lake. Ray and Kathy at Cedar Point are our hosts again and we are really looking forward to expanding our knowledge base from 2018.
Hope that we have at least some stable and consistent weather but that is always the crap shoot you take on this time of year.
If anyone has a few pointers they can share it is always appreciated, we intend on sharing after our return. We fish primarily for walleye and musky but would never turn a blind eye to a good perch or crappie bite. Hope you all limit out and have a safe trip.
