One time i was hunting on our 40 acre of land in waupaca county. Grandpa wasn't feeling to good so he went back to the farm to sleep. HE planned on coming back later that evening to get me. Now, we have approximately 7 stands throughout our land. I was sitting up in one of my stands, and i could here some noise behind me. I could tell if it was squirrels, buck chasing a doe? or?????? So, sat another couple ofhours, didnt hear anymore noise, so naturally, just kept watching for deer. The dusk comes around, and grandpa pulls up on the road, and honks his horn once(to let me know he was back). Soon as he honks his horn, i hear a little rustling around. Towards the end of the season, so i sat and waited for it. The sound kept getting closer, and when i could hear it almost right underneath me, i drew back my bow, and was waiting for it to come into sight. WELL, all the sudden i look down, and there is a guy carrying out on of my stands rather stealthy (or so he thought). HE had his bow so i didn't wanna confront him as he was right underneath me(i was only 15 at the time). The guy got about 50 yards in front of me, and i yelled, he dropped the stand, and took off running. upon further inspection, he dropped his release in the panic. I was shocked. Who is gonna sneak onto some1s land to hunt? Now, i can see if you stick a buck and it runs into the neighboring land, and your tracking it. But still, should try to call and get permission first. Either way, good memory ill always have

Leaving stands overnight is legal already in many county forests and in the national forest. Does anybody have a story about how that has caused issues all these years? Probably not as many as if it were legal on the smaller tracts of land. The point I'm making is that I think it comes down to how much public land there is where you hunt. The small tracts of land in the central and southern parts of the state will have issues because they are closer to the main population of hunters so they will see more pressure. Plus there is just less public land in these areas. Areas in the northern part of the state where this is legal already don't have many issues because there is just so much room and less people per acre. If I were to come across a guys stand up north, I can just move 500 yards past it and not even see him. Guys south more don't have that option.

lyleP....sorry but i completely disagree "The no overnight stands on public is plain stupid. The object is to get deer not be spending time and noice setting up. If i found the spot first so be it. Leave it alone, find your own for the season. Consider it my tax lease. And for you that say you pack in and out a mile, i am sure u wont get any quality deer and must have a lot of time on your hands or are just a liar and walk in 100 yrds thinking you went a mile because you are so out of shape. If it is not yours leave it a lone." This is exactly the problem with duck hunters that generally leads to major arguments in the marsh. So you found the place first, but you still dont own it. Ive talked to many in the marsh that think its theirs because they have been there for 20 years counting. Might be different up north but where I live public land is limited. Just go out opening day of gun season and see the orange pumpkins every fifty yards in the tree. I met a guy in the marsh who had some advice. His mentality was that no one beat him to the spot. He said that he would sleep on a tarp by his truck and head out as soon as headlights came his way. Sound advice for any outdoor activity on public land. You are not entitled to a spot and there is no need for discussion because you "set up the day before" and were too lazy to get up soon enough. I dont agree with stealing but I also dont think they should be allowed to stay.

the way I see it is public land is public land and leaving a stand out there claims that area as that persons. When it sould be first come first serve. I think it sould be ok for people to leave a stand over night but they shouldent be upset if someones in that stand befor them in the morning. Now stealing another's property is wrong and i would never do it but that the chance you take by leaving your property on public land. If its on private land, hang the ba@$%rd.

I usually use a sled or sometimes a cart. It all depends on the terrain. It's not too bad getting a 200+ lb animal out of the woods if there's not a lot of hills. The adrenaline rush after the kill helps get them out too.

Kuf i am not against using my climbers ad i do often but i also have a wife that is in late forties and took up bow hunting and have to get her set also. And there are the places climbers dont work. All i know is wife being new to the sport was not impressed to go out in morning and have blind gone. Stealing is stealing.

LyleP-It's not that hard to hike in a mile and hunt with a Lone Wolf climber. Super quiet and I'm set up in the tree in less than 5 minutes. And yes, I do get a quality deer every year.

I had a nice Summit stand I've had for ten years pulled off private land sometime this past year on the Winnebago/Waushara line.  Sad to say, most likely a hunter.

4kf',Ive talked to both land owners.Pretty hard to get !@tty with the farmer when one of the kids is his future son in-law.I've hunted this farm since I was a kid(52 now),shot some deer here, including my biggest bow buck, but maybe it's time to move on.The other farm butt's up to some public so there are always problems with that.People have it in their heads that if you are dumb enough to leave a  stand up(even on pp)then it justifies them taking it home.Just like society now a days,You have something I don't,you owe some or all all of it to me and others.IT SUCKS!

SB sound like those boys are getting exactly what they wanted...You pissed off enough to just give it up to them. First draw the line and put your stands back where they were & tell them to scout their own spots! talk to the landowner and explain what they are doing. If you do'nt want to loose your spot you better stand up for yourself. Maybe call a meeting with the landowner and these new guys to get it all out in the open......If your passive your out!

I had 3 stands "disappear"off of 2 farms this year.I've been hunting these farms 5 to 15 years with out much problem. Some new young guiys got permission this year and decided my stands were in good spots and took mine down and put theirs up in the same tree.I got 2 back and waiting for the 3rd.They told the farmers they didn't know they were mine and thought someone was tresspassing.Another stand the farmer found tossed into his bean field. He almost picked it up in his combine. That stand came from a tree I have hunted for 15 years in a fenceline. After they(neighbors) got rid of that stand they put one up 10 yds away.I've kept my cool through all of these and more problems,as I'm a guest on these farms and don't want to be part of a conflict between relatives and neighbors, but it's starting to be more hassle than it is worth to hunt down here(Racine Co).
