Fox Squirrels

Just wondering how far south you have to go to find fox squirrels. I hunt central WI...mainly Marathon/Portage/Wood counties and never seen a fox squirrel in all my years.
If anyone knows of any good public land down south with a bunch of fox squirrels please let me know. Would be willing to trade some fishing/hunting spots around this area. Thanks.

Got 3 last night in the last hour of the day. Tried a mid-day hunt with my son in Winnebago County last Friday, but only managed 2 (one each). In reading some of the posts, everyone is right about woods bordering cornfields. It was a blast to touch base with the type of hunting I started out with as a teenager in the 70's. I also stalked up to a tom turkey as I was closing in on the squirrels. Had him at about 25-30 yards before he figured me out and trotted off. Wish they stayed that ignorant in April/May.... Hopefully he'll give me that chance then.
Check Youtube for skinning techniques where you stand on their tail and pull them up by their back legs. It worked pretty good, once I got the hang of it.
Guys are right about that. They seem to be in open woods anywhere along cornfields. Any public land in southern Wisconsin seems to hold them. Really not a problem to find them. I went to college in LaCrosse and couldn't believe how many black squirrels were over there. Those are cool. - cajun-
Hunt Waupaca cty and my woods is full of them.We are close to swamp and Ag land.So they love the area.I have tails of black, gray and fox mixed in them.We have some real big coons,Which we mean a big Fox Squirrel.Nothing like hearing that 1st big nutted Squirrel hit the ground and there are still 40 acres to go.So much fun and head shots only. 22 long rifle.
I have lived and hunted in Portage county over 40 years and have seen fox squirrels many times. However the only place I have shot any is an old farm east of Plainfield in Waushara county. Even there I didn't get many compared to greys. They were usually in more open hardwoods near corn.
