I am looking at buying a boat in the five to seven thousand range, I'm looking at two boats, a 1998 ranger r81 with a 115 OR a 1995 16 foot alumacraft shallow V with a 40hp and no electronics or trolling mote, i can get the ranger for around 7000 with just a basic fish finder and ok trolling motor. but i can get the alumacraft for 2000 and spend 3000 on electronics and accessories.I know deciding on a boat is personal preference which is why I'm asking: which would your rather have yourself? I'm just looking for some reasons why you would like one or the other. Thanks in advance!

First off, you can't go wrong with a Ranger. The difference between a glass boat and a metal boat are huge. Stability will be much better in the Ranger and wind will not affect that Ranger as much as it will affect the Alumacraft. Get the Ranger, run it for a year or so while you save money for a new graph and/or trolling motor. The difference in technolgy throughout the years is huge. Get a Terrova iPilot trolling motor (24 volt) and then look at a Hummingbird graph that has GPS. You may even want to look at the side-imaging option as well. Don't worry about the investment in the new electronics and trolling motor. If you upgrade you can always take those accessories off, or at least get your money back on them during the sale.
