I agree with the previous post. I definitely plan to target walleyes during the spawn, but any big fish is getting released, pretty much negating any major damage to the spawning. To be perfectly honest, the 1 fish limit for the opener doesn't bother me, because any female I get is going back in anyways.
Well, sort of. While I usually practice C&R, I may keep one or two from time to time. Kinda hard to C&R with a spear. Not to mention that their "bag limit" is a bit larger than mine.

Stay fishy my friend.
Well, on second thought, after seeing this, I probably won't bother with the walleyes. Guess I'll put out tip ups in the shallows for pike.

I realize that these limits will be revised after the spearing numbers are evaluated but the lake we're on has a bag limit of 1 fish. The tribes don't even spear our lake. It's too stained and they don't bother with it.
Was up in Eagle River/Three Lakes area on Thursday. Ice looked good for the most part on a lot of lakes. I saw a couple guys out on a lake off 32 north of Three Lakes with a quad on the ice. I'm guessing, in the north woods, guys will be on ice until the 2nd week of May without a question. Maybe longer on some lakes.
