what speed is best for trolling brads plugs.....i have never used them before but just bought 1 to try....can you troll it with other baits or is it's speed very different then spoons, j-plugs or flasher/fly combos??

does it matter if you run them off of leadcore, riggers or dipsys for speed??

any help would be appreciated.

TIA - midnight

The best place to buy them is at Lake Michigan Angler on Sheridan Rd just south of Winthrop Harbor. Full Selection. Jalensky's in Kenosha has a good selection too.

Is there a dealer where you can purchase these plugs locally, or are you guys getting them online?

Thanks

Speedwise as a general rule of thumb we have caught more and bigger fish on the brads at slower speeds. 1.7 to 2.2 at the ball and typically a little faster on the speed over ground on your gps. Everyone is correct here though these are speed tolerant and you can catch fish on them mixed with other lures., even in a higher speed spread. They are best on our boat fished on a 5 to 6 foot leader behind a wire dipsey. This is a deadly combo and has caught many fish for our boat as well as for my buddies boats who are running brads. They also work well plain on a rigger. They will catch fish plain and behind attractors on leadcore too. The best attractor is typically the fish shaped ones designed for trolling cutbait. A guy did get a 22pounder this weekend on a green magic behind a metal dodger. Im still experimenting with them myself but I love em. I have 24 of em in assorted colors. The standard seahawk is my favorite as of late

I started adding a little gulp recharge liquid to the can tuna along with some garlic. caught a very nice king today on first try with this mixture.

I run them with the rest of my set up. I also use Pautzke liquid krill and soak the foam inserts in it for a day or two to get them all scented up.

Hey guys, is the oil packed tuna just grocery store tuna or are you getting something special? Thanks for the info, I am picking a few up tonight to try out there tomorrow.

Oil packed tuna and garlic for kings. Ground up sucker meat for grease balls (lakers). Always run 2 in a spread and both on the same side of the boat, this multiplies their scenting power. So far I have ran them on down riggers and dipseys using a 8' flasher and a 30' leader with great results. Cool The kings love the tuna mix..... P.S. do not drain the oil from the tuna. They will catch fish in the middle of the day when every thing else is dead. Big Smile

I run them anywhere from 1.5 to 3mph. so I can run them right along with other rigs in my set. It doesn't matter what you run them behind, my go to rig with them is on 100yds of copper without a flasher in front of it. Some people run them with flashers and some don't. Here's a little tip: try scooping up either a live or very freshly dead alwive and smashing it in the plug.
