Hey guys how often should an ATV be serviced? I have an 06 Yamaha bruin with very low miles. Not sure if a preventative maintenance visit should be done. But then again I don't want to be stranded some where.

Spray everything down with wd40 motor, suspension well everything besides plastic mud and dirts washes off easier. And when your motor starts to get that brownish look, at the end of the mudding and trail riding season, tear your plastic off for a GOOD cleaning, spray that aluminum rim cleaner on all the aluminum stuff (motor) let it sit for a minute or two and rinse it will clean it up to new looking. A few tips from the meatpole Big Smile

Just took my Grizz in for it's first checkup and service. Would have done it myself but adjusting valves is not my thing, especially my own new machine! Dealer told me keeping that air filter clean and oiled is the most important maintenance you can do to prolong the life of your machine. Going with conventional oil for one more oil change then switching to synthetic. Put 120 miles on Saturday and my pretty new machine desperately needs a bath!

I'm mostly with cookiedough. Much depends on how you use it too. The more dust, mud & heavy use, the more upkeep it needs. For lighter duty with limited dust & mud I'd just change the oil(& filter) once a year. I change my differential fluid about every 5 years with high quality synthetic, lightly used machine. Also check the air filter once in a while. I'd change the spark plug about every 3 yrs or so, & put a bit of anti-seaze on the threads. I have a pigtail off the battery for easy plugin with a battery tender. I give it a 24 hr plugin about once a month or so. Keep in mind where the machine is stored, keep mice out of it, whatever method you want. I also try to use non-ethanol gas about all the time, especially during storage periods. It's not hard to find here in WI.

synthetic oil change once per year and about every 5-7 years with low use if not running thru mud all the time rear differential fluid and 4wd transfer case fluid as well if 4wd ATV. Besides that, every few times out check and clean your air filter or replace due to dust mostly every 2-3 years would be beneficial if you get dusty a lot. That is all I have really done but really should change my anti-freeze if liquid cooled and also brake fluid both front and rear after 5-7 years as well but haven't done either of them yet but should since I also drive very low miles about 500-750 miles per year is all. I think a good washing by hand garden hose and cleaning after everytime out is one of the best things you can do to keep your ATV trouble free.

Thank you for the advice. This my first ATV and I only use it for ice fishing and plowing the driveway. I really didn't think of the manual. I was just curious on what most of the hardcore riders do with their machines.

Not trying to sound like an arse but I would read the manual and follow their recommendations. Most manuals can be found online if you don't have the original. I can look up the service intervals on my Griz if you can't find a manual.
