N/R Was wondering if it is at all feasible to fish the river through the ice just above the bar where the water is 16-18 fow. I know there is current as I fish the river extensively from the boat and understand the danger. I am asking because most winters I am able to fish on the Mississipi at the genoa dam where there is plenty of current and we do very well on sauger using no. 5 jigging rapalas. If this is done at all please message me or post your response here if possible. Thanks in advance. Tight lines. Jimmy

The bite picked up today from my last outing on Sunday, when we boated about 10 shorts. Only used plastics on sunday, but took along some minnows today. Today, boated about 20 eyes, with 4 legals at 15, 16.5, 18 and a 24. Plastic took the smaller fish, with the larger ones coming on jig/minnow. This was oposite of what I usually see out here in the late fall. Most of the fish were caught between the bypass and Kosh, in 9 to 11 fow. If previous year patterns are repeated, then the bite should continue to improve as temps drop.
Went out from 10 until 4:30pm. Long slow morning. Drifted down from bypass bridge and had two short hits, than went trolling on the lake for a couple of hours with nothing. Back to the river where I started the drifting. Ended up with a mixed catch. 3 walleyes (2 short, 1 17"), 33.5 inch northern, 1 whitebass, 1 carp, 1 rockbass (I know). I missed allot more than I caught so bring stingers with ya. Jigs and minnow, and Jig with gulp. GL
not really only in fort and jefferson but if you drive down blackhawk rd there is one spot i always see guys fishing down from the houses and just up from the bar. there is a long cement pad along the bank. otherwise you could try indianford too. not a lot happening either tho.

Can anyone tell me if there is any shore fishing here? I've been fishing a few spots the last month in Jefferson and fort and hadn't had much luck. Best night was 20 shorts ad that was a month ago. Gonna be back again Friday and would like to expand my shore spots. Any help is greatly appreciated. Been taking my gf for license issues and am trying to keep her enjoying it rather than sleeping in the car. Thanks
Fished yesterday 12 to 4 p.m. Four of us in the boat. Landed 2 short walleyes and lost one at the boat. White jig and fathead minnows produced all the fish. Where are all the big fish.
Went out with friend about 8:30am. By 8:40 we had a 20" eye in the live well. About 11:00 we fought about a 15lb carp and it finally shook itself off after about 5 minutes. Then nothing until about 1:30 when we lost another nice eye. 20 minutes later landed about a 4lb catfish. Caught a 14" eye around 2:00 and that was it. We wrapped things up around 3:00.
All fish except the carp were caught about a mile or so west of Fort in the channel and channel edges. About 6' of water. We fished all the way to the lake and even right in Fort, but nothing much going on. We saw about a dozen other boats out, stopped and talked to about half of them and it seemed that 1 keeper eye was the norm. Most were also fishing the channel.
We used minnows, leeches and night crawlers on jigs with no luck. Everything we caught was on a 1/8th ounce jig with a 3" grub tail and a pinch of gulp or night crawler.
It wasn't fast and furrious, but it was sure a great day!
launched by hwy 26 today by 6am and it was a little bit windy from the start. tried up by blackhawk for a few hours with nothing to show for. a lot of boats around as well and did not see anything being caught. decided to head up river and caught a some walleye but all were just short. however, there were a few other boats in the area and they were getting some as well including a few nicer ones. was off the water by 1pm. started to get a little more confidence from this spot i was at. regardless it was unbelivable weather for a november day.

Spent three hours on the water today. Boated 7 short sauger and a 35" northern. Noticed some action with neighboring boats landing a couple of large Crappies.

can anyone tell me where there is a launch close that has a pier in? any info would be great thanks
26 launch...there's a couple rocks on the upstream side of the launch, slightly submerged but not over the "leather upper" of my duck boots.. Beach the boat a couple feet from shore,tip-toe back on the rocks, tuck the mooring line under a shoreline rock...
Or use the tavern launch.
Anyone hear about the 30 inch walleye supposedly taken trolling the rock pile by the mouth? thats quite the fish.. I will be out by Newville tonight and hopefully it's picking up there.

Nice fish renrut, I guess I should have stayed by those trees a little longer and not give up my spot to you so easily next time. You do that to me much more I might have to start buying minnows too and leave the plastic in the bag. Nice boat by the way, how's that E-Tec working out for you? BTW, the dock is out at the bypass launch and there's shallow muck along the shoreline so it's nearly impossible to beach a boat to retrieve your trailer, best to take a buddy if you want to launch there anymore.
