Cabinfever getting to me, had to go check the river out. Water is milk shake color has cooled off to 50 degrees, level remains about the same. Gotta love the east wind coming right down the river make you wonder why you went out. Made a couple laps around the river draggging cranks, caught one short, near lake. That was it no one else around, wonder why !!! Things looking better for next week.

I must have been the one not trolling, I was drifting, me and my 7 year old son. We made 3 drifts and then the wife called and made me come home. We caught 4 and 1 legal in the 45 mins we fished.

Got out his morning for a couple hour just to keep tabs of the situation, water level unchanged, very muddy though, the tempature is 55 degrees so slowly warming back up. Not as many boats out as I expected, all trolling except one. Three shorts was all, still looking for my first legal of the year. Back later this week...............

Had an awesome day today, caught proly 30-35 fish, lost just as many, my 7 year old son caught almost every fish, including his biggest to date, a dandy 22 1/2 that Im going to put over his bed for him "he begged" lol... I'll have pics of him up soon, It was a challege most of the day, trying to drift with 6 rods, caught all of them on wolf rivers with 3oz weights straight down, chartruse hooks, chartruse beads, crawlers outfished fatheads 3-1... good luck.. tight lines

Last couple days of iffy weather shut fish down somewhat, water temp dropped about 6 degrees, while river raised about 6 inches. All this made for a slow day pulling cranks, 1 short, 1 white bass and 1 disconnect, all this in about 3 hours. Had plenty of company, better days ahead.

It may have been carp. The other day we were fishing with slip bobbers and I had a shiner on one. I caught a carp on it, shockingly not a snag the hook was through its lips. So it may have also ate my shiner. Carp will eat anything i guess. Sounds like it was a good fight.

Take Care

if your drag was working right and it was suddenly gone (rather than the breaking strength of your line), i'd go w/ northern. they can make a good run and when they turn their gill plate nicks your line and they're gone. my next guess, big cat. i never caught a carp on a shiner, but it could have been snagged. or it could have took a shiner, i've caught them by the mouth on fatheads. there's giants of each of those species in there.
