I fished every lake on the Tiger Cat Flowage chain extensively from 1975 until 1990. I'm a muskie fisherman who had married into a family with a cottage on Lake Placid, the most southern lake on the chain. In those days I caught muskies consistently. Nothing trophy size, but lots of 32" to 38" fish. I mainly used Mepps muskie killers and crappies as live bait. Also, 30 years ago there were no Northern Pike in those lakes! I went back this year for the first time in 30 years. The first fish I caught was a 24" Northern Pike on a Mepps muskie killer ...I was stunned! I had no idea that could even happen! I went back to the resort where I was staying and got on my laptop to try to find out "what happened" ?? I finally found this survey of the Tiger Cat Flowage done in the spring of 2019. It's a sad story! These lakes, simply put, are not the great muskie lakes they once were! https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/documents/north/SawyerTigerCatSpring2019.pdf

The Tiger Cat Flowage is a beautiful body of water. It is quiet; no jet skis or PWC's and very few high powered boats - the reasons are obvious once you are there. Many meandering channels to navigate to get to all 6 lakes of this chain. I have spent a number of mornings on the water only to see a few fishing boats - very cool. The sunrises are breath taking as are the sunsets. Decent fishing and very, very peaceful. Don't run out of gas - at times you are in the middle of nowhere! Though it is only about 3 or 4 miles from tip to tip it takes a good hour to 90 minutes to go the distance. New bridge constructed this winter between Burns and Twin. It will allow for wider boats to get into Burns and Placid.
