Silver Lake

I do walking fishing in the summer two to three times a week. I catch lots of bass and at least one of them is a nice sizer. I have also caught northerns while walking fishing. My brother caught a tiger musky with me just this past summer. I have never caught a small mouth or walleye. I have seen many nice size large mouth caught in this lake. My brother seems to always catch them. Hell.. I damn near stepped on a musky while walking fishing before my brother grabbed me. It just chilled there for a min before slowing swimming away. My brother "you might want to cast first if you want to catch something" lol

I have fished Silver Lake for 45 years now both open and hard water. Once a awesome Bass Lake now hardly a Bass over 16". Smallmouth do not exist in this lake if you ask me. As many times that I have fished it with others we never caught one or do I know anyone who has caught one. However, they claim they are in there with the Bass population small in size considering the great habitat in that lake for Bass. I have caught and seen some decent Musky on this lake but it has a problem of a 34" size limit with people keeping these fish to eat or not knowing the difference between a northern or musky with this happening a lot. I recall two guys having two 34-36" fish at the launch a few years ago telling me that they are good on a grill. The DNR fisheries guy I spoke to claims that the 40" size limit will never fly. So be it, it is what it is and when they are gone they are gone. I wish the best of luck for the musky population in this very nice lake. As far as Black Bass go it;s a poor lake for size.

Silver Lake was once a great Bass Lake with many fish over 3lbs taken. Not sure why they no longer are present in numbers but they are definitly gone. In the 70's & 80"s we caught numerous Bass over 3lbs and up to 6 lbs. It appears that the Musky are eating them before they reach any size. With the one limit at 18" they should be there but they are not. Perhaps the DNR could put a 21" size limit on the great sportfish and maybe do a little stocking on that lake. Walleye fishing is non exsistent in my experiences with northen fishing fair and Musky fishing the best of any species. I boated 7 last year and together we boated approximately 25 Musky with the biggest posted at Paddoch Lake Sports; 47" 25 lbs. It's a busy lake in the summer months, fish it before 9 and clear the launce by 9:30 or you will be waiting for all the speed boats launching. If you looking for gills, forget it unless you like small gills. The gills have been gone for 20 years that were any size. Crappie fishing is good in the winter with 12-14" crappie caught often.

Silver is such a great lake especially for both Musky and Bass. So far we have caught many musky out of this lake as well as some big time bass! This is the best lake to spend your time fishin on if none other!

My family and I own a Summer Home on Silver Lake on the Southern to Southeast Side of the Lake and will normally just fish off of my pier and catch perch, bass, bluegills, and the very very occasional Muskie or Pike. I've spent most of my summers on this lake and recently moved from one side of the lake to the other side. What a difference a couple hundred yards makes. The fishing is amazing on either side but it varies widely. On the Northwestern side the fishing was mainly smaller bass and bluegills and maybe the very occasional walleye. On the Southeastern side of the lake you already know what I catch and the size differential is amazing. It truly is one of the best fishing lakes in Southeastern Wisconsin

The little walking trail from the public boat launch there are three opens to the water good for fishing from. This afternoon while the sun was high I caught some large mouth and sunfush blue gill with a panfish size rapala. No keepers though. They were hooked about 10-15 out from the shoreline in very shallow water. No big crappie yet.

Silver Lake is a wonderful recreation site. It is a relaxing retreat from Chicago and an easy comute, but the area appears economically distressed. The adjacent trailer parks and empty business stores make the area look kind of trashy. Good place to invest for the future. Business and housing growth along 50 is not to far off. The future looks very bright for this beautiful lake once it gets yuppified and zonning laws get rid of the eye sores along and adjacent to the lake front.

there panfish fishing is awesome, we got about 60 bluegill, a nice walleye, had a pike on, 4 pound bass, 3 pound bass, 1 pound bass, and saw very large muskies next to the boat.

I have been fishing Silver since I was (well) young. I was always impressed with the fishery for such a medium sized lake. Caught a few Tiger Muskie there in the '80's, not many now. But the the Northern Pike size has gone through the roof recently. Last October I was fishing with my father, casting the bowl on the South West end (nothing) working the drop off on the East shoreline (nothing) Starting working a Colorado blade spinner bait right inside the dying weed line along the 4' flats just outside the public boat ramp off of "B" and WHAM! After (maneuvering) this fish through the loose cover I landed a 38" Northern. I was surprised that a fish this big in a lake this small was not a Hybrid Musky. It was the biggest, most beautiful Northern I had ever caught (and released)....ever! But then the next week I was there I saw the worst thing I could ever have seen. A sign. A big sign, "Public Ramp Closed For Renovation" What's up with this? I saw that a few of you had mentioned the ramp was closed up until June. But it was open in July and September. But then again closed now. Does this ramp open in spring (ice out) or WHAT? South end good winter bite for crappies and pike a few walleyes near the mid lake hump plus a couple 50+ inch muskies the last few years summer +fall of course.

Those darn muskie have eaten everything in the lake ! Panfish small, walleye scarce, big bass seldom, small mouth never, northern occasionally, carp are a plenty and so are gar at night ! This is a recreational lake with far too much boat traffic and inadequate police patrol. It is just a mater of time before someone gets killed on this lake. If you like fighting for a parking spot getting hassled by the police and dodging boats and almost capsizing due to the wakes this lake is for you, but if you want real fishing try Lake Geneva.
