Stiles Dam - Oconto River, Oconto County
|@ the lake|
I've never fished this river ever so fishermen who know this river please help answer my question. Thanks in advance.
• Is there a salmon/steelhead run on this river?
•If there is a run, is there good fishable number and is stiles dam too far up river?
I've heard there are pink salmon in fall and browns in spring but are there no chinooks, cohos or steelies? I've looked on here for past reports all the way back to 2014 and nothing mentioning those species of salmon/trout. Mostly just walleyes and suckers.
Even looked on dnr website and it list oconto river as being stocked with steelheads and chinooks.
41° - 45° F
the correct term is milting ! if you want to get technical !
If a male is “milking” there’s definitely something wrong.....
Walleyes hammerd today 30 fish in hour some females not spawned out! Still hard ! Males milking some!
Suckers every cast. Lots of bent hooks and lost hooks to these suckers. Snagged Sturgeon 3 times never saw body tho.
61° - 65° F
Fishing was good yesterday. caught a male 20" and a female 24" she was full of spawn. Also lots of suckers and a few sturgeon. Not many people fishing. I guess because the water is so high.
I was there Monday afternoon. Half way into the trail it was about 3-4 feet deep all the way to the point. With the last rain I assume it still is.
