I'm new to the area. Heard there is some good fishing on the root River. Just wondering if anyone has insight on where and what to use. Thank you

Fished root river a bit downstream of Horlick dam on Thurs May 14 (just before we got all this rain). Caught my pb smallmouth on a crayfish crankbait right where fast moving water met a calm pool, didn't get a picture but I would guess 2+ lbs.
Also caught a fat sucker off a spoon, hooked in lip, that was an interesting catch.

The water was a bit murky and high. Spotted a good number of fish, didn’t have any luck with spawn or tubes. The hatchery was operational today and they were processing steelhead this morning around 8:30am. Saw a few guys pulling in a handful of fish under the bridge near the dam. Couldn’t tell what they were catching them on, but, they pulled 6 fish within a 10-15 minute span out of one hole.
My son said they spawned fish march 25 then shut down until further notice per state order. Fish can pass if water is high 400 cfs +.
Does anyone know if they're going to open up the weir and collect eggs this season given the current situation we are in at this time?
Illinois, let’s start digging tunnels. ????
Did they actually close the border or just implement stay at home order?
