Late report from 4/18:
Decided to stop by Lincoln Sunday at 4:30 after visiting friends in Racine. Had the river to myself. Tried for an hour. No bites, one fish seen. Fished from lower footbridge to weir.
Decided to move to Colonial. A couple cars in the lot, but didn't see anyone fishing. Fished from footbridge to RCC. Finally found some fish spawning just below RCC. Hooked a huge buck steelie that cartwheeled several times before my leader broke. If you catch one with a pink egg flies in it's jaw, thank me later.
Suprisingly, the fish stayed in that riffle. Hooked another buck 5 minutes later on an egg sucking leech (pink/black). Aerial display resulted in hook dislodgement. Now the fish dispersed.
Fished upstream for a while, then returned to the same riffle and caught a smaller spawned out female. This 20 in her put up a good fight too, but stayed hooked up all the way to my stringer.
Sae the DNR creek census taker at both locations. Fish are there and there isn't much pressure. Get out and enjoy before it's over!
