You can leave your line, you can leave your pole, we'll still go fishin' in the crawfish hole! Nick invited me to a crayfish boil, but we were still missing the main ingredient.  We spent about an hour walking up and down his family's property on the Oconto River and we got into 'em good!  From scoping them out until the last shell was cracked, this one was fun for all ages!

Would anyone happen to know if fishing from shore is still possible toward the break water?

could someone please let me know if the salmon have started making the trip up river. love coming up there to fish for them but it's a 3 hour drive and a waste of time if they're not in yet. the last couple years I was either to early or just missed the run. very frustrating. starting to pick some up from shore in the southern part of the state, how's it going up that way?

I just started a series of "Great Local Baits" on the Oconto Fishing site that has some good tips on lures that are proven winners here in our local waters. Hope you'll swing by and like the page, and follow along.

Fished this river on 7/5 from the 2nd bridge to the mouth. Caught a lot of dink rock bass, a couple drum, and 1 nice 2.5# smallmouth.

First time to this river today and it was good. Launched from City Docks and went upstream. Landed 3 nice smallmouth, including a 3 pounder. I also got a 22' sauger, first time catching one of those. This is a fun little no-wake river and everyone I met was friendly and helpful. I missed several more fish. They wouldn't bite my usual stuff like crank baits or drop shots, but I finally got them to hit Strike King Rage Craw.

Definitely worth it. Smallmouth, walleye, northern, trout, can all be easily caught. You can rent a canoe from the campground and have a nice 4 or 8 mile float trip(depending on where you put in)River is rather calm and shallow with a couple small rapids and a few deeper holes. There are spots along shore to fish from also or you can wade as well.
