Sunday April 7:  Water temp 36

Riverview boat landing open, no docks yet.  River level close to normal with good flow rate.  Easy to launch.  Some large ice sheets coming down yet with several timbers so go slow, upstream slew still ice covered but thinning fast.

Just checking out new Helix 9 SI in the fog & ran in the afternoon: OK now I can see the rocks and trees alway loosing baits on.

Hallie Sportsmans landing was accessible the previous week, but very swift water, should be better this week.

Water is getting higher, but still fishable especially if you find an eddy or calmer spot. Talked with a few people yesterday that were fishing Phoenix park. One person got a few upper teen walleyes and the other had a few smaller ones. Both were jigging with artificial minnows in the calmer areas on the EC river part of the park.

Floated the river yesterday evening with the yak from River Prairie to Phoenix Park. Caught 8 smallies - nothing huge. I also had a good size chanel cat chomp a crank bait and take me for a little ride on my ultra light gear. I didn't get a measurement, but I'd guess it was 10-12 lbs in size. All in all it was a great little trip, but my buddy donated 2 rods to the river just before we landed. RIP

Waded the river from altoona dam down to where ottercreek dumps in.Tried small glides and bucktails, large shadraps. No luck then switched to a mini medusa and had 3 follows with one over 40".Needs to warm up with some consistency in the weather patterns. Just a beautiful river, always a joy to be on it.Good luck to all and please leave it better than you found it.

Made it out to the Eau Claire over my Spring Break from March 24 till April 1st. Made it out 5 times, fishing was still slow (water temp was low) but still managed to bring home around 10 keepers ranging from 15-17 inches. Also caught a lone perch (10 incher). Also caught my first 'Ski of the year. Hoping the bite starts to pick up.

The fish refuge like said is 500 feet below the dam. The dates are march 1 to friday preceding the first saturday in may.

Many people get confused because they automatically think this is in Chippewa county which is farther north. This is "Eau Claire" county so check the regs for Eau Claire County. I myself was confused when I saw this post, because I also thought it was open, then I looked it up under Chippewa county which has no reference to the Eau Claire.Good luck out there sounds like fun.I have been down below the Altoona Dam it looks real fishy, and even if you dont catch fish it looks like a good float.
