Lake Eaton is located just north of the Village of Long Lake. Lake Eaton is heavily stocked with coldwater fish, but it has a good population of smallmouth bass.
Coldwater Fishing
Lake Eaton has always been known as a successful coldwater fishery. For the last 50 years, it has held wild landlocked salmon. Also, for many years, brood stock salmon weighting 5-14 lbs have been released here in late fall. Along with the salmon, this lake has excellent lake trout and rainbow trout within its waters. These fish can be found near the center of the lake where it is deep. Lake Eaton has stocking policies of approximately 2,500 lake trout yearlings, 900 landlocked salmon yearlings and 3,100 rainbow trout yearlings. Some wild brown trout also linger in the lake from past stocking.
Warmwater Fishing
Along with the great cold water fishing, this lake has a good smallmouth population. You have a good chance of catching the smallmouths near the shore where the water is shallow. Anglers have reported having good catches using spinner baits.
