History & Status of the Fishery
Round Lake is a small (33-acre) bowl-shaped lake, with a maximum depth of 37 feet. Round is located within the city of Eden Prairie, which owns parkland surrounding the entire lake. In addition to a boat ramp, there is a fishing pier for anglers. Boaters may use electric motors only.
Bluegill Sunfish are the dominant species in Round Lake, comprising 79% of fish sampled during this survey. The average length of Bluegill sampled was 6.2 inches. Sixty-seven percent of Bluegill were greater than 6 inches in length, with the largest measuring 7.3 inches. The average weight of Bluegill was 0.17 lb.
Black Crappie were sampled at a rate of 2.0 per gill net. Mean size of the fish was 7.6 inches and 0.21 lb. All fish ranged between 6.1 and 8.6 inches.
Also sampled in lower numbers were Pumpkinseed and hybrid sunfishes, as well as Black Bullhead. In the past, a variety of fish had been stocked into Round, including Walleye, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Tiger Muskellunge. Because these fish have not appeared in any sampling since 2000, it is assumed that none remain. No fish stocking has occurred since 1992.
