History & Status of the Fishery
Edith (Triangle) Lake has been managed for rainbow trout since 2005. The lake has been stocked every odd-numbered year with small spring fingerlings.
Modest numbers of rainbow trout were present in the fall of 2015, although the fish taken in this survey were small. The gill net catch fell within the normal range (1.00-4.00 fish/set) for fall surveys of stream trout lakes in this area, but the mean weight for rainbow trout taken in gill nets was below normal (below 0.62 lb/fish). Fish from stocking done in 2015 and 2013 were taken. Growth of the two two-year-old fish captured had been quite slow. Marginal water quality or intense competition from high numbers of white sucker may have limited growth (and survival) of stocked rainbow trout.
The white sucker gill net catch was very high, well above normal ranges for lakes of this class, and for stream trout lakes in this area. White sucker would compete with rainbow trout for some types of invertebrate forage, and management of a lake for stream trout when white sucker are as abundant as they appeared to be in 2015 in Edith Lake has rarely been successful.
At one time northern pike were rumored to have been present in Edith Lake. Surveys in 2006 and 2015 failed to collect any northern pike, so it appears they are either absent, or present only in very low numbers.
