Water temperature has fallen and is in the upper 70's. The water is stable to rising in most areas and the clarity is good. River levels remain low so please take caution when boating as many obstructions are now present. Also it is easy to back your trailer off the ends of ramps at these levels. Try to put the trailer in the minimum water needed to float boat. If you have angling questions please call the Bellevue Fisheries Station at 563-880-8781.

The water level at Rock Island is stable and is presently at 5.4 feet. The water temperature his near 79 degrees and water clarity is good. Water level is still low so please be cautious when boating as many obstructions are present. Also be careful not to back off the ends of any ramp. Use the minimum amount of water necessary to float boat off the trailer.

Channel Catfish - Good: When the cottonwoods are shedding the cotton, the catfish are biting. Use leaches, worms or stink bait in 8-10 feet of water and move closer to bank towards evening. Also floating a worm and bobber along rock lines can be very effective.

Flathead Catfish - Good: Flatheads bit best on live bait such as a live green sunfish or small bullhead. Try using jigging spoons in the tailwater areas as well.

Freshwater Drum - Excellent: Drum are still on the bite. Use an egg sinker and worm rig in moderate current areas. Even areas around boat launches can be productive drum fishing. If you want to catch large drum try using large crayfish for bait.

Smallmouth Bass - Good: Find areas with strong current along rocky shorelines and that is where you will find Mississippi River Smallmouth Bass.

Wiper (Hybrid Striped Bass) - No Report: For Wipers try a shiny spoon or spinner in the tailwater pocket.

Channel Catfish - Good: Cut shad bait is often the ticket for early season catfish. Also try floating a bobber and worms around rock piles for pre-spawning catfish.

Freshwater Drum - Excellent: Lots of Freshwater Drum can be caught in near shore areas using a egg sinker and worm rig.

Smallmouth Bass - No Report: Expect smallies to move in along the rock shoreline and the bite to pick up as the water temperature warms.
