Ice conditions have deteriorated on Mount Ayr district lakes. Shoreline edges are open on larger lakes; small ponds and lakes are ice free. Ice conditions are not safe for ice fishing.

Most Mount Ayr district lakes have variable ice conditions ranging from 2 to 9 inches. Ice conditions are deteriorating due to rain last week and unseasonably warm weather. Shoreline areas are starting to open at some lakes.

Most Mount Ayr district lakes have variable ice conditions ranging from 8 to 12 inches. There is a lot of slush/water on top of the ice due to the warm weather this week. Use caution and check ice thickness often.

Additionally, heavy snow cover on some areas of the lakes will affect ice thickness. If you decide to go fishing, use extreme caution and check ice thickness often. Limited ice fishing activity observed this week.
