Wisconsin Hunting Reports/Discussion
Wolf Hunt!
There has been discussion about native Americans having representation on the various boards and committees that regulate the harvest of wild game. Since the native Americans have their own set of regulations, granted at federal and state levels, that only they need to abide by they forfeit their place on any of those boards and committees that create and advise for the regulations that all the rest of the resident sportsmen, sportswomen and outdoor enthusiasts have to follow.
Exactly Swamp Buck! It seems pretty easy that if they feel that 200 should be taken out, raise the quota so that once the natives allotted amount is removed there are 200 kills remaining.
For Example: If the goal is 200 and the indians get 20% of the tags, raise the initial quota to 250 and hold it to 200 for non tribal members.
"As long as the natural resources board remains populated with members who think too many Indians on a committee make a committee unfair and unbalanced (Kazmierski)....the state cannot be trusted to manage wolves."
Frankly, if too many tribal members are on a committee then nobody can trust any committee to help manage wolves. Should we mandate having a tribal representative on the NRB? Why should we have a higher proportion of people on a committee who represent 0.9% of the State? Since tribes will not vote for a wolf hunt there would be zero management. Protecting animals to the detriment of other animals, farm animals, pets and humans is not management. It would be like loading up a village board with Mormons to vote on issuing liquor licenses....how many do you think would be issued?
"The price for mismanagement is federal control."
Inform me when the time comes that Wisconsin has not managed the wolf properly. I will be waiting.
As long as the natural resources board remains populated with members who think too many Indians on a committee make a committee unfair and unbalanced (Kazmierski), and who think having DNC members on a committee compromise the work of a committee (Hilgenberg), the state cannot be trusted to manage wolves.
The price for mismanagement is federal control.
I think all on this thread support wolf management. At this time, legally there is nothing that can be done except push congress to update the ESA to allow for management of separate regional populations vs looking at the population overall in their historic native range. We can all discuss overpopulation, lack of management, impact on wildlife and pets/livestock, all day long but until something changes at the federal level, legally hands are tied.
Pressure really needs to be put on congress to amend the ESA with a clear interpretation regarding regional population levels and management and then action can be taken at the state levels for management.
Colburn is in northern adams co., if I remember correctly there was a deer hunter scouting and was charged by 4 wolves, kicked one as it tried to bite him, shot one and shot over the others to scare them away. Also a father and son during the youth hunt had a encounter. In my opinion that is a issue.
I’ve hunted and fished northern Adams co for 55 years, owned property there for 40 years
